This occurred on August 6, 1945, in the Pacific theatre of World War II, at 8:15 a.m., when the United States Army Air Forces dropped the atomic bomb "Little Boy" on the city. Most of Hiroshima was destroyed, and by the end of the year between 90,000 and 166,000 had died!
There is allot of debate about whether this was necessary or not. Opinions?
Personally, I believe it shortened the war and actually saved lives on both sides.

I am of the opinion that in war, it is better to lose 1 million enemy than one of my own.

Some say that Japan was about to surrender anyway, but we don't know that. And the war was dragging on, every day costing more lives.

They were also known to fight to the last Japanese be it man, women or child.
