The Iran-backed Houthi rebel group on Thursday took over Yemen’s port city of Mokha, an area vital to controlling shipping through the Red Sea, Houthi and Yemeni officials said.

The Bab el-Mandeb's importance to global oil supplies has grown since shipping through the nearby Strait of Hormuz has been impeded by Iran during its war with the United States and Israel.
 
CNN reports that the U.S. has expanded intelligence and targeting support specifically for Saudi Arabia’s military campaign against the Iranian backed Houthis in Yemen. More than 100 U.S. military personnel are reportedly dedicated to that effort, with one U.S. official putting the number at roughly 200, operating as part of a newly established joint forces command.

Satellite imagery shows a very large smoke plume, and NASA FIRMS’ data shows 5 large hotspots south of Medina, coinciding perfectly with the oil pipeline itself.The data was recorded around 17:56 UTC.

The pipeline is the main way Saudi Arabia bypasses the Strait of Hormuz.

Over the last 18 hours, Ansarallah continued their lightning offensive in southwestern Yemen, and have officially captured the entirety of the Red Sea coast. After the withdrawal of Saudi-backed PLC forces from the port city of Mocha, Ansarallah continued their push southwards along the highway, quickly entering and capturing the port town of Dhubab without much resistance. From there, they advanced further south and seized the last Red Sea coastal town of Murad, thereby capturing the entire Red Sea Coast (except for a small stretch of land in northwestern Yemen).

Yes they can. But even the USSR could not hold out forever and that was a much loser “blockcade” and more like a united front (west) refusing to trade.
The economic lockdown was likely the same. World bank and sovereign things by a united west verus todays almost total economic block by the USA. By the USA weaponizing the Dollar, I fear it will drive the world to a digital standard. Most would already be on the Yen except many (most?) do not trust the Chinese government even a little bit.

I wish we had saved the dollar lockout until the war with China is over. That way even though they would prep for it, we would inconvenience the Chinese and hammer its hapless allies.

UPDATE: the oil pumping station on the Saudi East-West pipeline was completely destroyed during yesterday’s attack, according to satellite imagery released today.This is incredibly important news, as the East-West pipeline can transport up to approximately 210 million barrels of crude per month at full capacity, providing Saudi Arabia with a major alternative to the Strait of Hormuz.

Saudi Arabia says East-West pipeline hit by drones launched from Iraq​

Saudi Arabia has expressed its “strongest condemnation” after its East-West oil pipeline was hit by drones launched from Iraq.

In a statement on Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the pipeline was targeted in the Riyadh and Medina areas by “several drones originating from Iraq”, resulting in injuries and material damage.
