The mistake was in not recognizing how much blood Russia was willing to lose to regain control
I think there is a difference. Russia is willing to lose someone else's blood. The maths are always different that way.

Putin doesn't feel it when his peasants die the same way the American government feels it when a Marine detachment doesn't come back.

Too true,

I will say, last year's abuses & lecturing to India for buying Russian oil doesn't look particularly good now. It's not being seen favourably. Can't make this up.
I am not one to rah rah a country or a President because I live there or voted for them.

I think this move by the US is wrong. It is a temporary solution that puts an ally in a bad spot.

And strategically it makes the US less reliable. I would not trust the US as an ally that much. The US will ultimately look out for its own interests.

Now, that is true for any country. Don't let's pretend otherwise.

But this was an egregious move. Ukraine got thrown to the wolves, and yes I recognise the irony of that statement.

In case there's any doubt, I don't know a single person here in the UK who thinks this is a good look for Trump.

At some point the US electorate needs to realise the rest of the democratic world wants a reliable ally in POTUS.

It's just sad to me that an American President has to resort to this because the American public has no spine when it comes to stopping a terrorist state from acquiring a nuclear capability, and I don't care who's sitting in the big chair.

Can we agree that iran IS a terrorist state and they DO have a nuclear weapons program, probably a chemical, and biological to.
Diplomacy, appeasement and sanctions haven't worked, what's left. WAR, and the American public has no stomach for it.

Gas prices are too high! It costs to much to drive to my vacation home.
Grocery prices are too high, yet there are 75 different brands of various items on the shelfs.
It makes me sick! If the American public and Europe's to for that matter think they got it bad now just wait till a WMD is used on a city or critical infostructure. They are in for a rude awakening!
If they say they want to kill you, BELIEVE THEM!

I'm not sure the president can even do the russian oil deal without congressional approval. There was a law passed and it will have to be repelled and changed, and I don't think congress is going to go for that. IMO

Biodiesel has been an effective alternative that has been needing more attention, and federal funding and guidance for decades, we need to start thinking about more ways to offset our current wartime deficient production with worthwhile alternatives. We can't just blame this on the American people when it's been our own federal government's lack of interest to fix our problems at the root.

Ukraine / Russia thread , not Iran. Who by the way has had nuclear material since the 50s and has had ample resources , time and ability to have a nuke long before this bs with Israel and American agression recently. Killing the leader who vowed no interest in nuclear weapons and leaving his son in charge was stupid as usual. Not saying the son should have died as his Father and family should not have been killed to start with. No wonder with all previous agressions they don't appreciate the west. Nothing new here. Lost chance of western inspections of which previously existed due to this stupidity of choosing the weapons industry for a major economical lifeline. ENJOY.🫡😉🙄 create enemies than complain about them 🤯🥴

Ukraine / Russia thread , not Iran. I think the russian deal pertains directly to the iran war. Who by the way has had nuclear material since the 50s and has had ample resources , time and ability to have a nuke long before this bs with Israel and American agression recently. iran has been killing Israelis and Americans since their revolution! Like 50 years! Killing the leader who vowed no interest in nuclear weapons Sorry, don't believe that for a minute. and leaving his son in charge was stupid as usual. Not saying the son should have died as his Father and family should not have been killed to start with. No wonder with all previous agressions So we're just supposed to let them kill us! they don't appreciate the west. This I agree with, that is why I believe you're going to see a WMD used on a western city if they are not defeated completely. Nothing new here. Lost chance of western inspections of which previously existed iran has facilities that are just being found out about recently. Never visited by any inspectors. due to this stupidity of choosing the weapons industry for a major economical lifeline. ENJOY.🫡😉🙄 create enemies than complain about them 🤯🥴 136c9bd7-c9e5-4fa0-a1e9-283408a26f72.305f5798e3e5fe03917b612e81c54434.jpg

I agree regarding busting Indias chops over Russian oil. Regarding how this impacts Ukraine and our continued support. Purely on the surface I agree but I’m also wondering how much is Zelinski refusing to negotiate in good faith to end the war. This also applies to Putin.

The US is still making all budgeted military aid deliveries to Ukraine in 2026.

But it’s obvious Trump is pushing hard for a settlement.
So I go back to what is the idealized outcome in Ukraine at this point in time. Given that it’s more than evident no nato nation is seriously considering sending troops.
We have been sanctioning Russian oil and gas for four years with limited to no success and spoty cooperation.

In total the nato nations have provided close to360 billion in aid to Ukraine since the war started.

165 billion from the US

So my question again is what’s the plan?

Do we do nothing and continue to sanction Russia, while continuing to send 60 to 70. Billion a year to Ukraine while the death toll continue to rise past 1.2 million?

Are we going to adopt a radically different strategy to actually ensure Ukraine has a clear win. Which very likely would require direct NATO troop intervention.

So I honestly don’t know who is refusing to negotiate in good faith Zelinski or Putin. Or both still for that matter.
But I do know if a viable and implementable strategy is not switched to. We in all likely hood will eventually see all of Ukraine fall to Russia in the end.
Then Europe can deal with another refugee problem.

BREAKING: Trump says U.S. to get diesel from Russia, relaxing pressure on Moscow to ease prices before midterms

BREAKING: Trump calls for Ukraine to replace President Volodymyr Zelensky, saying the country needs “a new leader who can make a deal.”

He accuses Zelensky of refusing peace deals and says Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries are hurting American farmers.

The ship carrying Russian oil set sail from Russia on September 22. This means that the diesel deal was made more than two weeks ago, and with the lift on Russian oil sanctions, alongside the US itself now buying Russian oil and Trump calling for Zelensky to be removed for power.

Thoroughly disgusted.

So Trump basically just declared that both sides had agreed to a ceasefire.... when Zelensky didn't know about it (and Russia was striking energy targets as he sent that out..?). Sounds like he just made it up and hoped it was followed.
