I’ve gotta say, even though the U.S. has never supported the ICC, this one came as a surprise to me this morning.

I believe the US wasn't a part of the ICC, so the ICC has no authority over US citizens.

The US is the only Western country that is not part of it; they are in the company of a fine group: Russia, China, North Korea... who have not signed this treaty

No country that's capable of acting independently to defend its interests should willingly put itself under the authority of another, possibly hostile, body. The US is a sovereign nation. Most of the Western nations are no longer capable of -- or willing to -- defend their own interests.

The icc has no jurisdiction over the U.S. though, which is why the U.S. never really gave a crap about what it said.

Exactly, we were never a signatory -- although many in this country wanted us to be.
