I have had some serious doubts and still do about western direct intervention.
BUT in the back of my mind I always wondered if we've invested too much in the war in Ukraine to back out. Even if it means direct intervention if they start to lose.

I revert back to my thoughts from the start of this war, if Kyiv looks like it may fall and the government of Ukraine could collapse then don’t rule anything out.

No one is excited. Just was posting sources to verify breaking information. Though this statement to me is telling about western position on Ukrainians losing.

Personally I’m treating this statement in a few ways. The first is that it’s to scare the U.S. into passing an aid bill so they don’t find it necessary. The second is a message to show resolve to the Russians that they are not going to give up to Ukraine. Third they are talking in the form of trainers or advisors in Ukraine rather than training forces in the west. Lastly, imo least likely, implying that if Kyiv began to fall they could step in. I don’t see how the United States would accept this stance though and I don’t think any country in NATO could act on it without their approval.

I could be wrong but I just don’t know how the west would’ve gone from avoid WW3 at all costs to let’s start WW3.
Maybe the West didn't have to lay their cards down because anytime prior to this Ukraine wasn't losing. Expect for the very beginning before Western arms and aid swooped in & Russia was knocking on Kyiv doorstep...
Prior to Congress and a certain political party holding up aid for Ukraine The West never needed to make such assertions, proclamations, or threats regarding Ukraine security or outcome in the war.
Now that you Ukraine is losing maybe the West is finally showing their true cards. Maybe the Western position all along was if Kyiv falls or if Ukraine starts lose (bad) we step in.

Looks to me just political posturing as a consequence of the potentially fading support from the US and the huge amount of criticism that resulted from his posture lately about Ukraine (ie see his missed participation to the summit in Ukraine).
