Germany is pursuing the acquisition of conventionally armed Tomahawk cruise missiles and ground based Typhon launchers. The U.S. government has agreed to enable the procurement following Germany’s Letter of Request.

The mobile Typhon system can launch Tomahawk and SM-6 missiles, with the Tomahawk providing an approximately 2,000 kilometre deep strike range. A final German procurement decision and Bundestag approval are still required.

Latvia will transfer SENTINEL air surveillance radars to Lithuania without charge. The radars will provide tracking and surveillance data enabling Lithuania’s NASAMS batteries to engage airborne targets more effectively.

Latvia made the transfer decision following U.S. advice and operates a different system for its own national security requirements.

The Netherlands’ Defence Ministry & Optics11 contractually agreed to develop Anti Submarine Warfare in a Box, or ASWINABO, a towed fibre optic acoustic surveillance system.

ASWINABO is intended to detect and locate crewed and uncrewed submarines, surface vessels, divers and torpedoes while monitoring subsea infrastructure. The compact system can operate from crewed or uncrewed naval platforms, with the project targeting rapid production expansion.

The Spain led NATO Commander Task Force Atlantic conducted combined training with the Japanese & Canadian navies in the North Atlantic.

Approximately 3,000 personnel from 14 Allied countries comprise the NATO force. Training with Japan & Canada included anti submarine, surface and air warfare, electronic warfare, live fire exercises and underway replenishment.

Romania has shot down a drone after it violated the country's airspace, marking another security incident on NATO's eastern flank. According to Romania's Ministry of Defense, a Romanian Air Force F-16 destroyed the drone with an air-to-air missile over an uninhabited area near Padina, Buzău County, on Friday, July 24.

A Canadian intern of Chinese origin at NATO’s SHAPE headquarters in Mons, Belgium, was detained under an arrest warrant on suspicion of espionage for an unidentified third country and participation in a criminal organization.

The investigation began after SHAPE security reported suspicious activity, with Belgian authorities searching the suspect’s home & workplace. Prosecutors have not identified the alleged beneficiary state.

The UK selected Tekever’s AR5 surveillance drone to replace the British Army’s Watchkeeper fleet under a planned deal worth up to £400 million over ten years.

The initial order covers six aircraft, with up to 24 expected by 2029. The AR5 can carry up to 50 kg of cameras & sensors and is expected to begin entering service later in 2026, subject to contract signature and final approvals.

UPDATE: Romanian President Nicușor Dan said it is “inadmissible and intolerable” for Russia to continue violating Romanian airspace, which is also NATO & EU airspace.

The statement followed the downing of a third unauthorized drone in three days by a Romanian F-16 at 10:13 local time, 12 km northeast of Sulina over Romania’s territorial waters. Romania identified Friday’s drone as a Shahed type used by Russia, while investigations into the drones downed Saturday & Sunday remain ongoing.

NEW: A Romanian F-16 shot down a drone over the Black Sea on July 26 after it entered Romanian territorial waters near Sulina, marking the third consecutive day Romanian forces have intercepted and destroyed an unauthorized drone.

The aircraft was destroyed by missile approximately 12 km northeast of Sulina. Its type remains pending debris recovery. Bucharest later summoned Russian Ambassador Vladimir Lipaev over the repeated airspace violations.
