Due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, Saudi Arabia had redirected 70% of its energy exports by pipeline to its port of Yanbu, located on the Red Sea. To leave the Red Sea, these ships must transit the Bab al-Mandeb Strait.

If the Houthis sever this second barrier, the last remaining escape route for oil would collapse. According to financial analysts, such a situation would stifle trade between Asia and Europe, forcing container ships to bypass Africa, and could immediately propel oil prices above $150 to $200 a barrel.

U.S. Marines from the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit conduct a verification boarding aboard M/T Wen Yao in the Gulf of Oman, July 16.As of today, American forces have redirected 3 commercial vessels trying to run the blockade, disabled 1 that didn’t comply, and boarded 1 to ensure full compliance with the ongoing U.S. naval blockade against Iran.

Bandar Abbas is being isolated from Iran right now. All major land routes — roads, bridges, rail — are under heavy targeting. The critical Bandar Khamir bridge was blown a while ago. Signs point to a coordinated operation cutting off this strategic port that handles 85-90% of Iran’s containers and 55% of its imports/exports.
No reliable roads or rail means the regime can’t effectively move around in this extreme heat and rough terrain to support Bandar Abbas or the nearby islands, as Islamic Republic does not have real air support.
Islands nearby and the area are being bombed. We might be seeing a small ground op, naval maneuver into the Strait of Hormuz, or both. This has the precision of serious American strikes — not the scattered pre-ceasefire stuff.
