Ok, this is starting to get seriously concerning: first it was “NATO has to be ready by 2030,” then it was “the next six months could be decisive for Ukraine and Europe’s security,” now it’s this, coupled with increased strikes near the Polish boarder. What’s everyone’s take on this? I feel like the timeline is getting really compressed, going from 2030>six months>no timeline at all, I’m worried one day soon we’re going to wake up to news that the war has spilled over, and then all hell breaks loose. Tired of living through historical events……

He started saying that 6 month line in May/June, it’s now September and he’s still saying the same thing. There’s a couple bigger problems I have with his statements though. First is the scenarios he’s talking about have already happened. The scenario he’s discussing is not Russia overtly launching a direct attack on NATO, so much as a Russian missile or drone “accidentally” landing somewhere on NATO territory. Of which I say to him, what the hell do you call last September’a incident? I’m sure some of the drone incursions are the result of electronic warfare, but it’s fair to say some of them have probably been a provocation.

Second, he went out of his way to say the “attacks” could coincide with “political changes in certain European countries granting power” which brings me to an ONET, polish news, article that I read this morning. There’s a massive debate in Poland right now over the use of the Russia threat in advance of the polish elections next year. The current president of Poland has openly said he disagrees with Tusk’s framing of the intelligence reports, and behind closed doors it sounds like the two have clashed even more, and he has accused Tusk of trying to use it to his political gain.

The six months time line to me sounds like they’re concerned about what will happen to Ukraine this winter, which is a legitimately fair concern considering the state of their energy infrastructure. This is especially true when you consider the weight that Europe places on Ukraine’s contribution to its security. While the Russia accusations, are attempting to deter Russia from going further in its hybrid campaign.

I really don't see Russia attacking NATO. I don't see the advantage.

This doesn’t look like the US is Fleeing NATO. Rather adjusting and moving US troops to what evidently appears to be the developing hot spot in Europe.

I agree with the director and riffraff. There is no profit or anything worth risking for any perceived gains in Russia attacking Europe.
There is also always the risk of tensions and interactions going sideways and escalating inadvertently.

So by that metric currently there is a higher risk of an escalating situation.
But not one meriting a defcon change

I do want to caveat that (especially before RiffRaff correct me) that I am speaking under normal circumstances.

If Russia perceived a significant imminent threat, that all goes out the window.

But Russia just attacking because they think NATO is weak and they want to take advantage? Putin doesn't like the roll that hard of a six. (Battlestar Galactica reference!)

Guillaume Lacroix seems to have an agenda. I would not place 100% faith in his descriptions of what happened in that meeting.

It sounds like a lot of the meeting was about gas supplies and the Middle East as well. It feels like people are putting way too much stock into it though.

The Latvian president came out in a statement today and said that the “intel” Poland’s president referred to was still general intel and not specific. Also, Tusk came out today while being interviewed in Ukraine and clarified they could happen, not that they are likely to happen.

To add to this, Lithuania has now come out to say it’s the same intel they’ve had since July, and NATO officials say there is no new intel and NATO has not changed its threat perception. So that means all of the Baltics have not changed their threat perception, and there is no new information other than the general intelligence that was received and widely reported earlier this summer. NOT A SPECIFIC THREAT

it feels like more and more European leaders are putting more and more statements back to back as if it’s going to happen at any moment. Even the Swiss are putting out stuff.

First, I want to be absolutely clear as of this post, I do not see indications that nuclear war is imminent. I am asking people to prepare calmly. Please do not interpret this post as an announcement that a nuclear attack is approaching.

This is a personal statement.

It has been awhile since I posted because been wanting to double down and focus on bringing more people from X into the DWS forums while doing what I do best.

My absence from the forums and this warning are separate matters. Stepping back changed my workload. It did not end my interest in this work or my support for this community.

Now, to why I am posting.....

My concern has grown enough that I feel a responsibility to ask people to take their own preparedness seriously. I cannot give anyone a date or guarantee what happens next. I can tell you that I am taking rather extreme concrete precautions in my own life as of late.

This message also applies to people outside Europe. Your ideology, political party, or opinion of any government should have no bearing on whether your household has an emergency plan.

For Americans, the United States already has military personnel, millions of duel citizens/tourist in Europe at any given time and military infrastructure dotted across Europe. The circumstances and decisions would matter. Americans should include the possibility of a wider European crisis in their own contingency planning. No matter what a war in Europe will drag US into it. Period.

I have sat my own family down, reviewed historical FEMA fallout maps, and worked through evacuation contingencies with them. For the first time in my life, I am making plans at this level of seriousness and detail with my wider family.

That includes thinking through what I would actually do if circumstances changed quickly while I was at work, away from home, or going about an ordinary day. Where would I be? What would my family need to know? What decisions would we need to have discussed beforehand? If I suddenly got the alert kenetic action has occured or is occuring between a NATO or NATO's members by Russia.

I am sharing that because I am acting on the same advice I am giving you.

Preparation should also include knowing when to shelter. Evacuation is not the right response to every emergency. In a radiation emergency, official guidance is to get inside, stay inside, and put as much space and materials from you and the outside.

Review your supplies, essential medications, family communications, and local emergency guidance. Have the conversation with your household while you have time to think clearly.

I hope these plans remain unused.

I am continuing my normal life and building toward the future, but I now consider having practical contingencies a responsibility to my family.

After nearly twenty years following these issues, the extent of my own preparations has changed dramatically within the last few months, hell last few weeks... That is why I felt compelled to say something here.
