Oklahoma has broken ground on a $7.5 million facility to support a reusable, rocket-powered spaceplane designed to fly to the edge of space and return to a conventional runway. The facility at Infinity One Oklahoma Spaceport will house mission control and flight operations for Dawn Aerospace's Aurora spaceplane, which is targeting U.S. operations beginning in 2027.
Aurora has already completed 64 test flights, including supersonic testing, and is being developed to provide frequent access to high-altitude and suborbital conditions without conventional rocket launches.
One customer, Astral Materials, has booked up to 100 flights in 2028 to conduct research into advanced materials and semiconductor manufacturing. The project includes a dedicated hangar, payload integration facilities and mission-control infrastructure, with completion targeted for fall 2027.The goal is to make experimental spaceflight repeatable, allowing researchers to fly payloads multiple times rather than waiting months between conventional launches.
