A Chinese Long March 6C rocket stage has broken apart in orbit less than 2 days after launching seven satellites, creating a new cloud of potentially hundreds of pieces of space debris. LeoLabs estimates the stage fragmented into tens to hundreds of objects while orbiting roughly 400–480 km above Earth. Most should reenter within a few years. It's part of a troubling pattern: a Long March 6A stage fragmented into 533 tracked pieces in 2022, while another breakup in 2024 produced more than 700.China has introduced standards intended to prevent spent rocket stages from creating debris, but no technical explanation has been publicly given for these consistent Long March 6-series orbital breakups.
