Seems the IMF is content to just keep writing them checks for the time being, we’ll see what happens if they ever stop.

Who are they gonna start a war with? India? They would lose. Iran? See above, and also Iran is Pakistan's friend now that Pak/US links have frayed. China? That's their main sugar daddy. Afghanistan? Uhh... no one wants to touch that with a ten-foot pole.

Honestly, Pakistan is not in a good position to invade anyone. I'd be more concerned about the prospect of Pakistan being invaded by India, and the whole thing spiraling out of control.

I never put it out of the question for people who aren’t afraid of dying in the name of their god, to do something irrational in the name of that god even if it means dying.

Countries don't go to war because God told them to.

I know it seems like they do, but they really don't. Divine command may sometimes serve as the excuse, but the actual causes of armed conflict are always of this world.

Also, religious leaders who wield political power are almost invariably closet atheists. It's practically in the job description.

Plenty of countries have used that as an excuse throughout history and the modern day.

Oh yes, and they will continue to do so. But I think it's important to understand the way in which religious belief interacts with political power.

Official religion is not about doing what God tells you to do.
Official religion is about declaring that God approves of what you're doing.

That's how it's always been. And if Pakistan decides to start a war with another country - or nuke India - you can be sure it wasn't because someone saw Allah in their dreams. 💁‍♂️
 
Before Pakistan betrayed us (day one IMO) by housing Bin Laden, the USA allegedly had plans to seize all of Pakistans nuclear weapons* and physically remove them. That was when we were in country and giving them Billions.

Now Pakistan only has two real cards to play: Be besties with Peking or scare the world with its mighty arsenal so the IMF bails them out.

At least Afghanistan has Lithium, afaik Pakistan just has a radicalized youth to middle age group that requires them to export terrorism upon mostly India.

This is true, I guess what I’m saying is I wouldn’t put it past vindictive Pakistani generals to claim their god told them to bomb India as an excuse because they blame them for their demise. Not saying this is a likely scenario but it’s a scenario that can never be excluded.

Also, it’s a convenient way to live test their systems. The modern Chinese military hasn’t fought a major war in decades, so it lacks recent large scale combat experience.

I don't think this is likely at all, FWIW. In such a scenario I would be far more worried about a radical group seizing their nuclear arsenal rather than the existing generals going out with a bang.

It’s not a new thing for Pakistan, my concern is a warhead making its way to the tribal lands.
