Another massive military purge just took down three top Chinese generals.
On June 26, 2026, China’s National People’s Congress abruptly stripped the legislative delegate status of three full generals, the highest active rank in the military. The targeted leaders include General Xu Xueqiang, head of advanced military equipment procurement; General Li Fengbiao, political commissar of the strategic Western Theater Command; and General Guo Puxiao, political commissar of the Air Force.
- This move, reported by Nikkei and Reuters, removes their legislative immunity and follows the established pattern of Xi Jinping's anti-corruption campaign that has already ousted multiple top PLA leaders, including former defense ministers and Rocket Force commanders.
- It signals persistent high-level instability within the PLA's command and procurement structures, potentially affecting military cohesion and modernization efforts amid regional tensions.
