Huge blast rocks holiday hotspot in 'attack' as 'suspect on the run'

An official has called the explosion a 'tragedy'.

An explosion rocked Monaco on Monday, after a man reportedly left a backpack on a street. The horror blast occurred in Rue Reverend-Pere-Louis-Frolla in the major holiday hotspot at approximately 9pm local time. Three people have been injured, including two being seriously hurt, in the incident, officials said. The suspect, BFMTV reports, is "on the run".

Nice Mayor Eric Ciotti commented the incident on X, saying in a translated message: "The attack carried out this evening is a tragedy that strikes Monaco. Thoughts for the victims, their families, and the people of Monaco. Total support for the security forces and emergency services mobilised." There were no immediate confirmation from authorities the incident was an attack.

Seems like an assassination attempt against Vadim Ermolaev.

Ermolaev is a Ukrainian oligarch who renounces to the Ukrainian citizenship in 2019 in favour of the Cypriot one.
Since 2023 is being sanctioned by the Ukrainian government due to his decision to move his business in Crimea and therefore his taxes being paid to Russia.
