Well I quite certain there is some activity, that’s what governments do. Including Russia China and others.
I wouldn't think so. First it's an excellent way that authorian leaders often use to illegitimize protests, and second these protests aren't about wanting to get closer to the west; they're against general government incompetence and corruption in the wake of the roof collapse a couple of months ago that made people furious. There's not much of an ideological background among the protestors either, just that they've lost faith.
