SpaceX: "Today, we are announcing that Terafab will be built in Grimes County, Texas.
The facility will be an advanced semiconductor fab that will bridge the divide between current global chip supply and the compute demand of the future. The combined SpaceX and Tesla demand for chips is expected to be in excess of 1 terawatt (TW) of compute, which is significantly larger than the current global supply. While we are deeply appreciative of our current chip suppliers, and encourage them to expand production whenever possible, this looming gulf between supply and demand is at the core of Terafab’s necessity.
Terafab will be epic in both its mission and in its sheer size, designed to build new compute at an unprecedented scale and speed. A vertically integrated factory with more than 100 million square feet of manufacturing space is planned. This facility will house the manufacturing, packaging, and testing of advanced logic and memory devices. Bringing these aspects together in one location will enable fast, recursive improvements and accelerate new compute deployed. Terafab will produce chips optimized for edge computing and inference for use in hardware like Tesla’s Optimus robots and self-driving Cybercabs, along with high-power chips designed for operating SpaceX’s space-based data centers.

American fertilizer independence
In Donaldsonville, Louisiana, we broke ground on CF Industries’ $3.7 BILLION Blue Point project—a major step toward American fertilizer independence. Once operational, the facility is expected to be the world’s largest ammonia plant by nameplate capacity, producing approximately 1.4 MILLION metric tons annually. That fertilizer will support 6.7 MILLION acres of American corn production—or roughly 1.2 BILLION bushels. Construction is also expected to create 3,900 jobs over four years and more than 100 permanent jobs in Louisiana.

Could the U.S. Mine More of Its Own Potash?

The President’s Executive Order is being seen a step toward the U.S. being able to produce more of its own potash, which is said to be available but not mined due to regulatory impediments.

On March 20, President Trump issued an executive order (EO), “Immediate Measures to Increase American Mineral Production.”

Important for the agricultural industry, this includes potash on the list of “Critical Minerals,” which is being welcomed by the industry.

On the heels of news of tariffs on Canadian goods, potash came into focus because up to 90% of the U.S. potash used is sourced from Saskatchewan.

The EO is being seen a step toward the U.S. being able to produce more of its own potash, which is said to be available but not mined due to regulatory impediments.
“Originally included in the first list of Critical Minerals created in 2018, potash’s omission from the 2022 list was a mistake that a broad coalition of industry and consumer advocates have been working to remedy,” said Corey Rosenbusch with The Fertilizer Institute in a statement.
TFI states the U.S. currently only accounts for 0.2 percent of global supply. The group cites this is despite supplies unmined due to regulatory uncertainty and delayed permitting. Today, 98% of the potash used in the U.S. is imported. Top countries for potash exports include Canada, Belarus, China, and Russia—with the last three accounting for 55% of global supply.
Michigan’s potash reserve is ideally located within the U.S. fertilizer demand center, and our production facility will create jobs, bring our supply chain back to the U.S. and improve our country’s trade balance.”
