Chinese influence in Spain

Huawei now manages Spain's sensitive wiretap data. Other EU countries say that puts the entire bloc at risk. Spain's interior ministry signed a €12.3 million contract giving Huawei responsibility for storing and managing judicial wiretap data. One EU lawmaker called it "poisoning the well of European intelligence sharing," not just a Spanish problem. Spain's defense ministry denies any risk.
This sits inside a much bigger pattern. PM Pedro Sánchez has visited Xi Jinping four times in four years, more than any other EU leader. Chinese investment in Spain has doubled in the past year. Chery built its first European factory there. CATL and Hithium are placing battery gigafactories in Zaragoza and Navarra, localizing production specifically to dodge EU tariffs on Chinese EVs.
Shanghai was just named the first Asian city of honor at Barcelona's biggest festival.China is also getting the public on its side. 54% of Spaniards now view China favorably, compared to just 30% for the US.Other EU states see the danger clearly. On his last Beijing trip, Sánchez met with the founder of a Chinese wind-turbine company whose UK factory plan had just been blocked on national-security grounds elsewhere in Europe.

Spain is insane
• They reject the American vision of global confrontation and believe that trade should not be militarized.
• Spain prioritizes the survival and revitalization of its industry through green investments rather than blindly following Washington's confrontational rhetoric.

The US is behaving like the Roman Empire.
I think, rather, that it is the US that is crazy.

Spain isn't insane because they reject what you define as American expansionism and the militarisation of trade.

They're insane because they are entrusting intelligence apparatus to a country that does not have Spain's interests at heart. Spyware, crippleware, backdoors.

Time will tell, but more and more countries will move closer to China and distance themselves from the US. The US tells its allies: "Do this and shut your mouth." You cannot treat your allies that way.
If the US doesn't make a complete turnaround in the coming years, it will suffer the same fate as the USSR: disintegration!
China will replace the US as the superpower on every level.

The Huawei wiretap contract is the part that concerns me most. Foreign investment in factories and battery production can bring jobs and technology, but handling sensitive judicial interception data is a completely different level of risk.

I think the key question is what safeguards are in place: who controls access, where the data is stored, whether independent security audits are conducted, and whether Spanish authorities can fully monitor and revoke access when necessary. Even without assuming any wrongdoing by China, critical intelligence infrastructure should be assessed on security grounds rather than commercial benefits alone.

At the same time, Spain's growing economic ties with China don't automatically mean it's abandoning its European partners. The EU needs consistent security standards across member states, otherwise a vulnerability in one country could potentially affect information shared throughout the bloc. This seems like an issue that requires a coordinated EU response, not just a political dispute between Spain and other capitals.

You are seeing only what you want to see and none what you see and say are in these two stories.

The fist says :

“Nevertheless, Washington and the European Commission have taken a far stricter approach. The U.S. maintains a blanket ban on Huawei’s participation in telecom networks, while the European Commission in 2020 recommended that member states exclude high-risk vendors from 5G deployment and other critical systems. Countries such as Germany, France, Sweden, and the UK have since implemented bans or strict limitations.”

That lists Washington as one of Five name countries and the European Commission that simply do not recommend it. No where does the USA say anything to Spain. You simply made that up.

The second article barely mentions the USA at all, and then only to compare/contrast :

“Concerns about Huawei have seen the company restricted from 5G networks across the European Union, as well as varying levels of bans in networks of NATO allies such as the United States and United Kingdom.”

Thats is it. No scolding. None of the petty nonsense such as your baseless quote “Do this and shut your mouth."

Your response was self fabricating an exacting American behavior that is unrefutably absent.

It appears you personal anti American bias has pushed you beyond reasonable discourse.

You are completely correct about one thing:

“China will replace the US as the superpower on every level.”

Yes, they probably will. Won’t matter much to the USA. But everyone else is in for one hell of a shock.

That is completely false.
I'm looking forward to November 3rd.
I deleted part of my message so I wouldn't be accused of talking about politics.
