Climate Change Discussion

Can't trust anything Chinese make. Not even your children's toxic lead toys that come from China.
Exactly right. A couple of years ago we had a hepatitis outbreak that was linked directly to frozen berries and vegetables that came from China. Despite this people still buy them. If I buy something I want to know it comes from the local producers. Fortunately the Australian Government brought in a labeling system that has to indicate the percentage of Australian content. I only buy stuff that reaches 100%. Is really difficult at times and most fruit juices are made from reconstituted imported concentrate. Won't touch it as you don't know where it came from. Have a juicer and process my own orchard produce only.

Ever noticed how the colder it gets, the less it snows? Antarctica is a true desert: it hardly gets any precipitation. It's just too cold for that. But as it warms up it begins to see more snowfall (cf. chart). More snow leads to more ice, q.e.d.

Edit: No, of course this phenomenon will not save us from the effects of global warming.

Hi, so now we are entering my degree field. More snow does not equate to more ice, the best scenario to gain more ice over the winter is to have a mild summer to lessen the melting.

With an emphasis on climate change, it is changing, has been, and always will. The human element is accelerating this change and forcing the cyclic rate of carbon to happen faster, and more violently. The earth wants to maintain a balance, like in the movie BioDome, carbon in, carbon out in the most efficient way possible.

A causal link between greenhouse gas emissions (i.e. CH4, CO2, etc...) and global warming has been firmly established by the scientific community.
But what is the primary cause? Europe was much warmer centuries ago, long before the Industrial Age.

I urge you to read some reports (or at least the conclusions from the IPCC). They're a UN organisation with thousands of the most skilled climate scientists.

Absolutely!!!!! We need MORE green house gases not less. The planet’s vegetation and crops will explode in size and yield. If we are going to feed another 3 billion people we require more CO2.

100% absolutely wrong. All the extra CO2 is being sucked up by the ocean NOT plants, making the oceans more warmer, and more acidic/hostile to life. You know the oceans that we depend on for everything like the bottom food chain to support us. 🤦‍♂️

What exactly do you think is sucking up all that Co2 in the oceans? Algae.
Yes and when they die with all the CO2 in their bodies it turns the ocean more acidic and warmer which is creating more and more hostile environments for life in the ocean including algae. It's pretty self-evident with the massive bleaching going on with our coral reefs and the mass extinctions occurring with aquatic animals.

You can say the same thing about trees. And if all the humans die, you can say the same thing about oxygen.

As long as were making up hypotheticals.

When trees die they don't turn the atmosphere more acidic or warmer. Cannot in any way compare it to when CO2 is absorbed into the oceans. It turns the water acidic which is very bad for ocean life.

It makes little difference to me for several reasons.

Climate change models are theorized models. Using collected data for the short period of forty years to proof those models that claim to map climate trends over centuries is not sufficient to prove causation.
There are many legitimate scientist who have countered these models and shown them to be deficient. I’ve posted them here before in response.

The UN is a snake and opportunist Trusting anything that comes from them will always be tainted with political bias.
Want proof recall The WHO’s flip flopping ass kissing response to covid.
Or the many epic peace keeping missions where UN peace keepers and workers ended up being just as much a part of the problem in the nations they were sent to rescue.
Or wait how about the UN bodies that purport to lobby for religious freedom and women’s rights being led by Islamic theocratic states where women’s rights and religious freedom are non existent.
No thank you I’ll take a HARD pass on anything that comes from the UN.

Lastly I’ve lived and survived the clatter and shatter of the;
End of oil
Famine sweeping the globe because the earth can’t feed its population
Ice age will consume the northern hemisphere
The ozone layer is collapsing
The arctic and Greenland will be ice free by 2000
Cities will be under water by 2000.,
To the death of global warming
To climate change
and back again to global warming.

THIS is the level of scientific knowledge settled science you expect me to accept?

Believe as you wish, for it is just a belief system.
The last fifty years of science has proven their predictions and prognostications and science is not settled.

Yes and there is proof. Just look at the bleahing of corals on the great barrier reef

It all depends how it’s framed I suppose

Largest recovery on the GBR in 36 years

Just one year before

I have a question are we actually proposing that there is a sweet spot of temperature that is the only margin in the oceans the life can exist? That life in the oceans have always and forever been confined to a 1-2 degree region.

The biosphere is a massively complex always evolving always changing to different environmental changes.
In essence highly elastic resilient.

It’s not that change is happening or that we shouldn’t always look for improvments.
But the panic and claptrap that the sky is falling and life is going to become unbearable is just foolish

Earth was warmer and teeming with life long ago. Then it was much colder and some life survived. The only constant here is change and mankind had nothing to do with it.

As far as the algae acidic death spiral, explain how the oceans were full of life during the Cretaceous period. You just said that climate change would bath the seas in acid, killing most things. The climate has changed, up 1°C and is forecast to be increased to as much as 2°C. Yet the Earth was as much as 10°C warmer before the cosmic smackdown and life was abundant, and the oceans? Full of dead algae and acid? Not hardly. There was a plethora of life, a true cornucopia in the not dead oceans.

Perhaps climate change is prodded along by the fetid stench of unwashed hippy freaks. 😎

Do you realise youve just described the exact process of how oil, gas and coal was formed? It almost like its mere existence proves the oceans were literally full of dead algae and highly acidic. So you can do science, even if it seems accidental.

Temperature, bovine burps and such had nothing whatsoever to due with oil, gas and coal creation. It was a big fucking rock hitting the planet so hard that in places the atmosphere burned, the earth still wobbles and it threw up enough debris INTO orbit to form the moon.
IMO, it’s not y’alls fault. You’ve been brainwashed washed by the media and the reeducation camps, called public school. There they serve up bullshit that’s 90% wrong and 10% mistaken.

Well it's a good thing climate deniers are or have become the minority now and actions are taking place to combat climate change and warming oceans regardless what their twisted OPINIONS are on climate.

Whenever I want to get mad by some thinking like this I just think their the minority and what they think won't matter/effect the hard work climate scientists and people are doing no matter how hard the few in the room try to deny it. :) So keep thinking that way, fine no sweat. Ain't gonna change shit, a new green eco-friendly world is already in the making and ahead of us that no one can stop. ;) Have a great day everyone knowing there is nothing you can do to stop and failed to stop climate change progress in investments in green energy, greener technology, & climate awareness. 🤙🥳

Good god man, I think you swallowed the party line whole!
What is this climate denier? Someone who thinks Earth is in a vacuum?

I believe in Climate Change. Im just pretty sure that volcanoes, sun cycles and the slowing rotation of the earth are the main causes.

This planet is doomed. Long before Sol goes all in on the supernova, it will have expanded out halfway between Earth and Mars. Now that will be some serious Climate Change.

Climate change doesn't have a party. It's not a ideology or a person. Its just science and is neither GOP or DEM.

Though some environmental activists or what I call modern day hippies like to take things to far. But all activists on just about anything or on the right or left have some crazies who take shit to far. So...

My cheeky sly comments weren't directed towards you precisely. Was just going over this thread history and just made a comment directed towards the general public once my blood boiled enough.

I'm telling you this thread is a good thread if you need to get your blood pumping. Just go back and re-read everything. 🤦‍♂️🤣😂

For eons, the world’s oceans have been sucking carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere and releasing it again in a steady inhale and exhale. The ocean takes up carbon dioxide through photosynthesis by plant-like organisms (phytoplankton), as well as by simple chemistry: carbon dioxide dissolves in water. It reacts with seawater, creating carbonic acid. Carbonic acid releases hydrogen ions, which combine with carbonate in seawater to form bicarbonate, a form of carbon that doesn’t escape the ocean easily.
