Climate Change Discussion

Though our goals to change these facts of climate change is a little still out of reach & impractical:

It's not that renewables are wrong. Just incomplete. It also can't be done overnight. The video above shows the problems with trying solve climate change or the root cause of it by 2050 so quickly & why it is very unlikely, sadly.

But again doesn't mean we shouldn't be trying to lean ourselves off slowly of fossil fuels. If not for the environment for national security reasons. We would never have to depend on another nation for energy ever again. Which I think we can all agree on at least that last part.

Experts called for ice age ……..
Mass starvation not enough food by 2000………..
Then ozone crisis ………..
The arctic was going to disappear……..
Coastal cities will flood………

So I’ll take the “opinion” of a Nobel laureate and other scientist and real life results over the repeatedly failed and delayed global ice age cum warming cum climate change crowd

Just see a lot more mining necessary for such change. Take into account the processes and pollution caused changing and maintaining cleaner energy as claimed this is obviously a false belief. Even lithium and solar panels are highly toxic after their use . The waste from greener solutions are no less damaging than current situation. Electronic vehicles are no good simply because of mass battery dumps created. I'll support Toyota their idea is much better solution. More convenient, faster refill and less wastage and damage to planet.
All said and done I'm not a supporter of of bullshit, I stand firm with my opinion. Climate change exists and we can't stop it . It has been around as long as the planet and is natural process of which humans have survived way be industries existed. We add a tiny change to either speeding up or slowing it down as scientists still argue over. At the end of the day it is a power grab and financial system created by corporations and governments to feed you scare campaigns for control of your lifestyle. Just like war alot are indoctrinated and propaganda all to support the narrative requirements. Demand your politicians give up or cut down on what they want you to do. When I see elites stop travelling and use technology for meetings like real face time video conferencing etc. Private jets grounded permanently, petrol vehicles stopped being used by governments, etc etc than and only than would I consider belief. Lead by example. No no no. Do as I say not as I do. Well count me out.
I never had strings attached and my mind is judgemental to my environment. Question more. You have a chance and a choice. Trust should be earned
But trust should also be investigated first aswell. Plenty of highly educated professionals etc exist that cannot be trusted, but most think well look at the credentials and mistake that as credibility. Big difference can exist between the two. I say stick with combustion engine with clean fuel source like Toyota. Each to their own, you can't please 100% of the people 100% of the time.
 
We needed MORE co2 not less. If we want to feed and clothe and house huge numbers of new humans we will need MORE food and fiber.

This comes from sunlight and Carbon. primarily CO2 for plants respirations. Wanna “save the planet”? Drive your big truck down to the campsite with the kids, fire up a generator for lights and the pumps for sinks showers and toilets. Next start a large Campfire to roast flesh and treats. Keep that fire going all afternoon and night, through morning and repeat.

Carbon is your friend.

At least the mining is helping boost my bottom line. Using Forrest, Palmer and Hancock companies to help drive the bottom line at moment. Now to start with the manufacturing sector. Not that I am a capitalist better description is opportunist. New opportunity is a flow for more iron ore operations in Scandinavia which is getting better with soil thawing. Every life change brings opportunity. Have gotten out of insurance but still in banking in Australia which is still highly profitable.

Science is a way for humanity to try to find a way around its own flaws - which include lack of objectivity, a tendency to succumb to preconceptions, and blind faith in unprovable dogma.

While science has enabled humanity to do amazing things, throughout history there have also been attempts to subvert or distort science for nefarious ends. These are to be expected; humans are, by and large, a**holes, who will lie, cheat and steal to get what they want. This does not, however, reflect poorly on science itself - merely on people who engage in such practices.

Referring specifically to your comment - I don't think most people have any idea how science works, nor are they particularly interested in finding out. In fact, this statement sounds like an inane excuse to disregard the outcomes of scientific research when they don't agree with one's preconceptions. I also smell a whiff of blood (there used to be a time when scientists were burned at the stake) - but eh, perhaps it's just me. 🤷‍♂️

And as the American society disowns its scientific heritage and wallows in ignorance, China has now overtaken you in both the quantity and quality of scientific research.

This will end very poorly for you. You're free to believe God will intervene to stop the scientifically advanced Chinese missiles heading for your homeland - as for me, I wouldn't bet on that.

Americans' lack of trust in science is rather sad, and I am speaking from experience when I say the Chinese have produced more research papers on small modular reactor emergency core cooling systems than the West. They were rather good.

I just think it underlines the need for more state funding in the West to research that won't necessarily turn a profit.
Also, ever wondered what research grant money pays for? Well, it varies wildly from grant to grant, but it pays for equipment, research material, and most importantly the grad student's living expenses.
I know (well, knew) a PhD student on unfunded research who was working in McDonalds to pay for stuff. That is messed up in my mind, the government should pay for STEM (science, tech, engineering, maths) research and their living costs so researchers can focus on, well, research!

They did end up killing the SSC project. 😥 Well; at least we have JWST - though that was approved way back around 2000. USA is probably about to relinquish its leadership in the area of "big science" which it had held ever since the Manhattan Project. Given how anti-science the American society has become, why should Washington do the eggheads any favors?

I figured perhaps it may be useful to briefly explain how science works, and how people cheat at science (yes, it does happen - we're only human, afer all). It's actually very simple. Science is the application of the so-called scientific method:
  1. Observe a phenomenon
  2. Formulate a theory
  3. Conduct an experiment
  4. Depending on results, accept or reject the theory
Example:
  1. Fire
  2. Fire hot
  3. *sticks finger in fire*
  4. Ouch! Fire indeed hot!
Another example:
  1. Nuclear fission
  2. Fission can trigger more fission, resulting in a chain reaction
  3. *builds a nuclear reactor*
  4. Theory proven; chain reaction is indeed a thing.
Unfortunately, each of these steps gives unscrupulous people an opportunity to cheat and deceive. For some reason processes which decidedly aren't science (since they do not follow the scientific method) - such as various conspiracy theories - like to masquerade as science, probably because this gives them a veneer of respectability. So for example:
  1. Observe a phenomenon -> make up stuff or lie about what you observed
  2. Formulate a theory -> present a bogus or unscientific theory (a theory that is scientific must have the property of being falsifiable, i.e. if the theory is false, it must be provably false) - so for example "the Earth is flat" is a valid scientific theory (which just happens to be false), while "God created the Earth" is not a scientific theory (cannot be proven false if it is false).
  3. Conduct an experiment -> lie about your experiment; make up or fudge results; shift the burden of disproving your theory to others
  4. Accept or reject the theory -> continue to uphold the theory despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, improperly exclude data which refutes your theory (aka the "No True Scotsman" fallacy), accuse detractors of conspiring against you (cult mentality), etc.
Science sometimes goes wrong, even though it has inbuilt mechanisms - such as peer review - which minimize this risk. It's not always malicious; sometimes people simply make honest mistakes or harbor false preconceptions. There have been cases where famous scientists failed to solve fundamental scientific problems despite possessing all the necessary tools - simply because the answer was contrary to what they intuitively believed to be true. But yep, fraudsters exist, and I would suggest that in this day and age it is especially important to be able to distinguish a horse from a pair of guys wearing a costume...
 
Y'know, take climate change or global warming or whatever the new hip phrase is out of the equation for a second and answer this:

If we have the technology to switch from fossil fuels - which some nations have in abundance and other nations have zilch - to renewable energy sources that everyone can have equal access to, why would we not make that change? Wars have been fought and economies collapsed over oil. All that goes away with solar, wind, water, geothermal, and other limitless natural energy sources. The fact that we would leave a less-polluted world for our children and grandchildren would seem to be an obvious bonus.

I truly don't understand the resistance and even hostility towards this fundamental change in how we provide energy to everyone on the planet. In our county, we are constantly seeing signs in people's yards saying "NO SOLAR!" For the love of all that's unholy, WHY would anyone try to prevent me from putting solar panels on my own fucking house??? Why would they care? Solar panels on my house doesn't impact them in any way.

Someone explain to me like I'm five why renewable energy is considered so evil by some folks.
