77 recovered bodies so far... expect this to raise into the hundreds and more then likely over a 1000 dead...

They have not even started counting the bodies on Sanibel island because the only bridge to the island is down 100% washed away and they are still performing rescues on the island.

Bottom line they can't search & rescue or count the dead in Sanibel as only 200 out of the 6000 year round residents evacuated and only a couple hundred have been found and rescued on the island...... Want to repeat they cannot even recover bodies or do a full search and rescue for Sanibel island still and will be for sometime...

Bottom line I am more then fairly certain well over a 1000 is dead. But the devastation in Fort Myers and Sanibel island is so unbelievably massive it will be months before we get a final death toll........

I have still yet to hear from 2 of my friends. The more time goes by the more I grow less hopeful... seeing these pictures not sure how my friends in Fort Myers & Sanibel survived. They had little warning... so few evacuated including my friends...

I am not religious but please keep your thoughts and prayers with the people of Fort Myers and Sanibel.......

I would go search for them but no one but emergency crews or coast guard still only aloud in the areas. 😥

Thank you I am truly at a lost. This is really effecting me personally and professionally. They are good people. Seems latly it's all I can think about.

They do not deserve this. Feel so guilty I came out of this without a scratch and my friends 20 miles from me lost everything possibly their own life while I'm sitting here in my luxury house with everything I could want....................................... all I want to do is go look for them but I've been turned away and almost in trouble for doing so.
 
It tough beyond measure I’m sure.
I’ve seen death and some destruction but nothing like that so I won’t even dare to say I understand.

The fact of not knowing if they are even alive is really really really really eating me alive.............. can't do a fucking thing about it.

Sorry for spilling my emotions here. Just very tense right now.

Vent man, no problem, internet strangers are here for you.
Really hard when the phrase "hits too close to home" is literal. More and more things hit too close to home. Its hard for humans to empathize with statistics and personal accounts like yours help break that. A lot of people find it easy to blame blame blame until they can empathize with them.

Will likly be many bodies just simply missing. Most houses just washed away. They likely got washed backed into the ocean when the 20 FOOT surge receded.
