DEFCON 3 | Europe Crisis | Feburary 2022

President Zelensky just signed Ukraine's application of membership in the European Union.
Taking full advantage of the sentiment for his country. Well played. They're not going to get admitted tomorrow but in the event of a more prolonged conflict it could be interesting to see how this storyline develops.

This.

This is the first major war in Europe for years that Russia has been directly involved in, and of course the entire world is against it.

They need some form of deterrence incase anyone gets brave. My worry is what they count as “getting brave”

I also worry because this is in response to what exactly? Sanctions?

He’s lost his fucking mind
Regarding the Russia dictator Putin, he may have indeed lost his mind, but that does not make other facts go away. There has been an escalation in cyber-attacks by organizations that Russia will claim are "USA Proxies" such as Anonymous against their media and government sites, and there has been an increase in involvement in NATO and NATO nations to provide weapons and aircraft to Ukraine. We may not consider those escalations, but I am certain that the Kremlin is portraying all of this very differently. As well as that reckless 2/24 NBC report about White House "national security" discussions on using cyberwarfare tools on Russian civilians. That and the bank issues, etc., are going to get pouring gasoline on this fire. That may make NATO and the West feel better, but the reality is that it needs to work for a negotiated settlement. USA had a very different view about USSR and Communist Cuba, which literally is NOT on our border. We can wave all of the Russia concerns away by "they're the Russians," and "Putin is crazy," but that does not help us solve this increasingly global conflict.

Imagine all of the USA television stations taken over to send a pro-Russia message. (Or UK, or France, or Germany, or Canada, etc.) And we would all be "fine" with that, and have a "boys will be boys" attitude. I don't think so. We need to deescalate with everyone, certainly with Russia, but also everywhere else.

air raid sirens going off Think it's kiev. Very loud and several going off. Don't think that one is a test. Live feed does concur with current EST.

Can you see Putin retreating and claiming victory?
Short of an overthrow of Putin and total civil war overthrowing the Russian government...
I can't see Putin and/or Russia retreating at all.
The negotiations in Ukraine are going to have to be for very significant change.
And NATO/USA need to avoid what Russia views as "these games" at "the Russian border."
We can condemn the dictator Putin and violence by Russia all we want.
But if we want it to stop, then the West is also going to have to change regarding Ukraine.

Russia's message is unambiguous: "you screw around like this, you pay the price."
We want to send the same message back to Russia. Let's see how that escalation solves the problem.

Instead of more weapons and missiles, the West better figure out where it is going to get all of the $$$$ for donations for recovery in Ukraine. And stop with the EU and NATO talk.
Greatest sympathy for the Ukraine people, but the reality is that NATO is not going to fight WWIII for them... unless they are as "crazy" as the dictator Putin.

Ukraine has been in the international news for what - 7 years? It needs a quieter life in the world community. It may seem "exciting" to some, but the reality is until Russia literally has changed as a country, there needs to be a time to stay out of the news and global conflict. Fight the long, hard, really difficult struggles for peace, which means we don't get everything we and we deserve, and that's life.

I was watching a live feed and a huge green glow could be seen in the distance, then air raid sirens. Camera went offline and switched to a different view of kiev.

It's very scary and troubling development how i believe this place is slowly deteriorating. I'm even noticing myself that i am deteriorating. My family is thinking I'm crazy to wanting to take a short break to the countryside just in case. I unfortunately might have to take this alone and good meet up with a few friends whk do care about it. Within the next couple of hours is the deciding factors if I'm going to log off and take the pludge. Leave this board for my mental health, or sit in my room and take my fate. I really really really hope we're just blowing this out of proportion.
You are not crazy Sam. This is a big deal.
Keep your devices charged, your emergency information on paper, gas in the car, backup non-perishable food and water supplies, and keep any medications filled. That is what you can do. If we see major cyber infrastructure attacks, then we need to know the DEFCON (for us) needs to be elevated.

The scariest part is the USA government and how it has gone off the road, down the hill, randomly going wherever, with no one in the driver's seat. Nothing matters other than image. Preparing public, caring about USA public safety, that is all literally the last priority, as we see again in this latest crisis.

I think the biggest threat now is if aircraft carrying weapons etc to Ukraine get shot down. Or a cyber attack that takes out significant critical infrastructure, which, we are seeing the start of. Nvidia is shit down from what I read.
The NVIDIA attack was apparently a #ransomware attack by Lapsus$ data extortion group

Kyiv Independent is reporting Ukraine submitting application for expedited entrance as nation within the European Union "the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said that 'Ukraine is “one of us and we want them in.'"
