The interesting thing to see is if there is a trend away from the USA in younger Australians of today who seem to be more willing of nations like China. They are making assessments of the USA and not liking what they are seeing while at the same time faith and trust in the Australian Government is also falling.
On what planet and in which alternative timeline do you think that China is going to invade Australia. The idea is nonsense for a whole host of reasons, not least the logistics.To be honest missile defense systems are actually useless nowadays against hyposonics .
Also it wouldn't make bugger all difference for Australia even if we had triple the defense capabilities. Currently our military capacity would need 20 times what we have to last months in a direct conflict. Nuclear umbrella and host only makes us a target. No country globally could stop China taking Australia. The only way that could be stopped only results in nuclear war anyway. Majority of Australians are foolish to believe the US would save us. Most of the US naval forces would be destroyed by China on their way through to Australia . Reinforcements arrival would be to late due to travel time. So thanks anyway I know the thought is there.

Yeah I wouldn't expect you to have knowledge of China or Australia or what China already has access to in Australia and the island chain between. Let alone their capacity, capabilities etcetc. Back ww2 it only took Japan 4 weeks to get here. Even the Germans paid a visit. Remember Hawaii? SURPRISE.
Few things are.
If China wants to expand, she(?) will have to fight. If China wants to fight, it will have to take or destroy numerous lands, Islands and Island chains.
And an invasion, with ground troops, of Australia is so very far down that list that the concept is laughable.
Opinions vary, as do the goalposts for this debate. Very few here or elsewhere believe a full occupation of Australia (or the attempt) is in the cards. Seizure of important and strategic areas are almost a certainty if war breaks out. Would China Invading and holding (or attempting) several of Australias islands check your box? Or do you need to see a Russian level invasion attempt (failed) of the Ukraine?
By the way, I did finally figure out how to run this scenario and did. I gave Australia no land-based nuclear weapons, no airbases for bombers, only a single nuclear submarine sitting off the coast. Sydney took a single hit and that was all. NOT what I expected. If I do it again, I will probably switch it from a submarine to a carrier and see if that makes any difference.No doubt we are a target. That wasn't my point unless the game allows an aussie to fire US nuclear weapons that are just visiting

Well, no, it's not the game's fault. It played out as if Australia had no nukes at all except for the American sub. Yeah sorry my reply was suppose to state we currently have nothing nuclear militarily. We only have military bases, international airports, industrial areas and a couple of American bases. Oh and cities. My point stands that we have no nuclear capacity-capability militarily yet we have nuclear targets anyway.
