There are currently no imminent nuclear threats at this time.
The United States says Iran has the capability to make a nuclear bomb in less than two weeks but believes that Iran is not pursuing nuclear weapons. It should be noted that United Nations sanctions on Iran’s ballistic missile program have expired.
The U.S. military says it is running out of money to replace weapons sent to Ukraine. Russia has withdrawn from the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, however it says that it will not resume testing unless the United States does.
The United States prepares to send support troops to Israel but says combat troops will not be sent.
While there is a great deal of activity in the Middle East theatre involving an undeclared-but-believed-to-be nuclear armed State, The DEFCON Warning System assesses no imminent nuclear threat at this time. Israel will not use nuclear weapons against a scattered enemy and no known nuclear State is threatening Israel. Iran has operated through proxies to prevent the war from coming to its country and it is expected to continue to do so.
In Europe, Russia has toned down somewhat its boisterous nuclear threats, though its war with Ukraine continues. The West continues to arm Ukraine, though it is unknown how much longer support in the West will continue, especially in light of the war against Israel. While Crimea has suffered attacks, there is little sign that Ukraine is ready to be a serious threat to Russian interests in the area for the time being.
The U.S. assesses that China’s nuclear arsenal contains at least 500 warheads and is on track to double that number by the end of the decade. For its part, the U.S. says it will pursue a modern variant of the B61 nuclear gravity bomb, pending Congressional authorization and appropriation.
