As far as I can tell the defense department is cueing off of the experimental drone assault battalion. It was stood up not as permanent battalion. Rather as a developmental battalion to work with what Ukraine has done, learn from it, then report on it for dissemination and implementation across commands. The experimental research battalion is finishing of with drills in Germany and its report is expected later. So while yes some commanders have criticized some sec defs actions. Do we know anything solid about their motive or lack of motive?

A lot of criticism is directed towards hegseth over dismantaling DEI and focusing on the warrior ethos. It’s being criticized as taking focus away from important military concerns.

I find it strange that no one had concerns when the DOD was worried about the carbon footprint aviation squadrons were having or white supremacy and DEI.

I don’t know if the concerns over Hegseth are real or contrived. He has made a lot of sweeping changes and made lots of enemies.

As of September 2, 2026, CBS counts at least 20 generals, admirals and senior civilian defense leaders who have been fired or departed since Hegseth became Defense Secretary. Other reporting has put the number of senior military officers forced out at around 24, depending on what is counted.

More than a dozen senior generals/admirals have been directly fired or pushed into early retirement.
Among those removed have been:
  • Gen. C.Q. Brown — Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff
  • Adm. Lisa Franchetti — Chief of Naval Operations
  • Gen. Jim Slife — Air Force vice chief
  • Gen. Randy George — Army Chief of Staff
  • Gen. David Hodne
  • Maj. Gen. William Green Jr.
  • numerous other senior flag officers and commanders.

Historically, only four generals had been removed by the Pentagon since WW2. This is not normal.

I disagree with this statement. President Obama had conflict with the pentagon during his tenue for various reasons.

“I am forever grateful to President Trump for the opportunity to once again serve my country,” he added.

Driscoll went to the White House on Monday and spoke with the president about the “current state” of the Army before tendering his resignation, The Hill and other news outlets reported.

Driscoll’s departure underlines how Hegseth is imposing his will and consolidating power at the Pentagon.

Apart from the turf war Driscoll has been embroiled in with Hegseth, the Defense secretary has ousted several senior Army leaders with whom the Army secretary has worked o modernize the service branch’s warfighting efforts.

I never said that Presidents have never had conflicts with the Pentagon. I meant to say that nobody else has ever purged the top brasses of the Pentagon, both military and civilian, like this administration has done. Obama had conflict but only one General was dismissed in 8 years. 14 have been dismissed in 6 years of Trump.

And Obama dismissed significant number of field grade officers . Among them McCrystal Mattis, McKeirnan ( McKeirnan was the first wartime commander to be relieved of duty since MacAurthur)

I’m not saying Hegseth has not made mistakes, probably has. But the removal of military officers is not unheard of. They do all serve at the pleasure of the president. So all this uproar is kinda thin.

If Hegseth is screwing up I’m sure he’ll be replaced.

Sean Parnell is a good selection to replace Driscoll. Two Bronze stars (one for valor)
He led a platoon in Afghanistan that was brutal and one which was extended for 16 months. 85 % of his platoon received Purple Hearts
