Egypt

I remember decades ago Ethiopians starving to death in huge camps just miles away from that dam. The dam not only having water but already had plenty of nutritious lily pads that could have saved thousands if not more .

Tensions rise between Egypt and Ethiopia, with Egypt sending 10 000 soldiers to Somalia & Ethiopia moving armored vehicles toward the border with Somalia. The conflict is about Ethiopia continuing to fill up the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam

Context
Personally I see the issue as there is no accord between the nations of the control of flow of the water down the Nile. This is what Egypt is saying is their concern.
Does it warrant an incursion?

My thoughts as well. Israel is the only country that has anything similar. I’m betting Israel gets large penetrators and more F35’s to go with their huge F-15EX order
Tanks wouldn’t be much of a match for F-35’s that are ghost to almost all AA systems in the region. My bet is Libya is more on their mind.
There’s a low grade conflict or contest between Turkey and Egypt over control and of course oil in Libya. Plus the ongoing disagreement about the Muslim Brotherhood. Egypt probably see the upgrade as a negotiating posturing tool in dealings with Erdogan. El Sisi wants stability but he has to be strong in any kissy face negotiations with Turkey.
Not anything that is leaning towards open war. It’s also good for us because we want/need some checks on Turkish ambitions. It sucks but it’s the world we have not the one we wished for. Maybe in a few more decades the region might be able to stabilize.

Cha ching. 🇺🇸💪💰 Israel has nothing to worry about. As @OReid put it, they will be no match for IAF sprawling F35 fleet.

I’m agree but really think Turkey becoming so radicalized may lead to a huge conflict the in which the US does not choose the intervene (unless Israel is hard pressed somehow.

War planning and armament purchases are and should be based upon your Enemies and neighbors potential threat, not the most likely.

But the Egyptians are not upgrading just for fun. Aside from the USA only functionally unpenetrable front armor <DU plate> these have current issue optics for engagement and movement. This is a serious up armoring.

My 2¢ YMMV.

I am fascinated that the govt thinks this was a good move just based on the huge tunnels in and out of Gaza that were found. Just bizarre to me.

Yes and no, they had lots of tunnels into Israel as well. Bear in mind Palestinians were less welcome in Egypt than Israel.

Egypt’s petroleum ministry and BAPETCO report a new Western Desert discovery at Badr 15, well BED 15-31. The well is already tied in, initial flow about 16 million cubic feet of gas per day with roughly 750 barrels per day of condensate. Officials estimate around 15 bcf added to reserves from the Lower Bahariya reservoir.

NOTE: This is the tested rate of a single new well, not a field wide plateau, with appraisal and follow on drilling to determine full capacity.

Israel’s Energy Ministry says talks to approve a natural gas export deal between Israel and Egypt have reached “advanced stages,” while noting that some issues still need to be resolved. The discussions relate to expanding long-term gas supplies from Israeli offshore fields into Egypt’s network and export infrastructure.
