People need to be paying very close attention to this. Ask yourself why do they want this capability, and why do they want it now? If they need it, so do you. Get ready for whatever is coming.

It’s a fair question to ask, I wonder though if this is being spurred on by some new information. Or is it more about these concerns, that have been around for awhile, simply finally being addressed.

I say that because my initial response at reading this was “finally!”

But given the nature of the personality types who think about stuff like this. Your concerns are certainly valid.

One question that came to my mind was this.
Is the 90 day sustainability time frame set as a goal based on known threat or simply the longest timeframe of sustainability they believe could be achieved.

It's a fairly practical preparation. One may question why they hadn't done that in the first place.

Planning to no longer be able to rely on local infrastructure surrounding theses bases.
IE: power; water; local comms; and maybe even more importantly getting resupplied over local roadways.

The obvious cause being overwhelming cyber attacks.
However, sleeper cells surrounding bases could be activated causing major damage to our supply routes
IE: highway tunnels & bridges; port facilities; airports.

Wild Card, taking out our comm. satellites. Cutting inter-base comms.
To paraphrase “The more THEY know.”

Your window to prepare, even with the basics, is closing. For those tracking the indicators that an event is increasingly likely, you know that it is now undeniable that something is brewing. It has now reached the point to where national governments are now overtly telling civilians to make preparations, however basic.
As part of my career in the US intelligence community, one of things I supported was Counterintelligence threats to Continuity of Government (COG) and Continuity of Operations (COOP). Something i can say for absolute certain is that once governments signal that their citizens need to prepare, those preparations have already been conducted for national leadership.
It would be wise for you to assess your current situation and decide the appropriate course of action for yourself and family.
Governments from Eastern Europe to the UK are now telling people to have the basics on hand to weather a bad situation. What you will notice over the next several weeks is the expanding time period that governments call for people to prepare. In Europe, its currently between 3 days and a week. However, the US just sent the loudest signal concerning how significant the situation is; military bases must be self-sufficient for 90 days. The gravity of this can't be understated. The calls for preparedness will escalate in their time frames. 3 days will turn into a week. A week will turn in to a few weeks. A few weeks into a couple months. What Americans should know is that you will be on your own. FEMA does not have the resources to help people in a time of need during an event at national scale. You local authorities don't either.
My recommendation for people is to not focus on the "what", the catalyst for crisis. Focus on being prepared and prepare quietly. Those who fail to prepare will target those who they know are. What you need to do is prepare to weather the storm. As the saying in the military goes, "KISS"; Keep It Simple, Stupid. Water, rice, protein, canned foods.
Governments say everything is fine. Then they say have basic preparations. Then they say have more because help wont be coming immediately. Most people will brush it off and just say it will pass. We are now at the point where governments are telling people to prepare and some degree of panic is setting in. This will get worse. You must identify your phase line for action. Assuming, in any way, that crisis will hit and the government will show up to rescue you is a mistake. Turn that fear you are feeling into focused action. For those that are prepared, keep preparing and be quiet. For those that are unprepared, start now and be quiet.

That's well and good, man.....but how am I supposed to prepare? I have to take refrigerated medicine. I live in Independent Living and there's no generator here or place to put one. I can only get so many of my medicines ( both those refrigerated ones and the pill forms...and I can't ration my dystonia medication). Insurance won't grant me extras. I have food and water and ways to keep warm ( winter is coming) but without medicine and medical care, I'm in big trouble.

I don't know where you live but where I am it is getting cold enough for natural refrigeration outside. Could this work for you? Hopefully you won't need more than 1 month of medicine. Is that what your insurance will allow?

Well, it's not cold enough during the day here yet for that. And I can get one month's worth, but what if it happens when half of my prescription is used up and I can't get more? Dystonia can be dangerous, and going suddenly off my muscle relaxant can be dangerous as well. It sucks that if all this goes down I may end up being oofed, because I lost the Genome Lottery. And not just myself, but many other sick people as well...men, women...children...infants. Not cool.

I get it. I have asthma and I can't really stockpile inhalers (either maintenance or rescue) because they have a relatively short shelf life. Same with nebulizer solutions. I'm thinking of stockpiling old school asthma meds in pill form, though. Not as good, but may be better than nothing. I don't know what your illness is but maybe google or talk to your doctor and see if there's a pill type of med that can be used for it if the preferred meds aren't available? And see if you can a stash as an emergency backup? It probably wouldn't be the best and hopefully you would never have to use it, BUT it might be better than nothing if the SHTF?

I did a dig with a search engine and found something I could do...make sure to get my meds on the same day every month, even if the bottle is not empty, and eventually it will start having enough leftovers to work up a backup set of them. Better than nothing.

Kind of my thinking. They know more than we do, and this is their solution. DHS's "72-hour kit" doesn't quite seem sufficient anymore.
Hasn’t from the beginning, it’s barely sufficient for a major natural disaster

You want to know the hard cold truth? And this applies to myself here as well, so I’m not being some cold hard B____stard by saying this.

It’s called attrition it happens to all of us. So I ask myself what can I share and pass down to those who survive or come after. It’s the only sane outlook one can take.

That and I suspect that for more than a few older individuals. Being forced to live a more active lifestyle will help as well at least in the near term.
None of us are going to live in this body forever.

If it makes you feel any less cheated. The lack of not just specialized medicines but basic medicines like antibiotics and anti diuretics is going to kill more people in a major collapse than violence.
2/3’s of the military deaths during the civil war were from disease not wounds or injuries from wounds. Your not alone in this risk

"You're not alone in this risk" yes....that is why I asked the question. Found some good ideas...then ran a search and found something I could live with even for just a little while. I refuse to just lay down, sing a few rounds of "Helpless" by Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young,...and do nothing.

Basic antibiotics are a good thing to stock up on, too. You can get fish antibiotics online without a prescription -- they have they the equivalent of almost all the human variety and they're just as good (basically). People without insurance have been using them for ages. They last years beyond the expiration date (except for tetracycline).

That’s not what mean. We each approach preparing different. Based on drive and ability.
Do what you can absolutely. The first thing being a physically healthy independent of meds.

My response was directed more at mental and psychological health.
As one prepper pointed out, either way in the end we all die.
