French protest leaded by fishermen - 2026

A new wave of protests is starting in France, initiated by fishermen blocking refineries and fuel storage to protest fuel prices (and overall high cost of living). They are doing that while firefighters are doing a strike across the country. Those blockage on refineries already caused violence between riot police officer and fishermen (no wounded beside tear gas irritation)

There is huge support amongst the french citizen toward that movement, and calls in french social media to redo the yellow vest protest are increasing.


I'm doing that post because i feel that going to be some huge protest that could lead to political consequences (especially with the presidential election in 2027). Especially since the main "anger" motive is fuel price, that isn't fixable by any french laws (since it's due to the US-Iran war)

For information, diesel price are now really really high.
I saw today prices at 2.4€ per liter (that's 10.40 USD per gallon, and we have to remember that average salary in France are lower than in USA), and in some gas station, diesel was out of stock

So yeah, we are in France in a situation that is now causing serious issues for every citizens

I understand how they feel. In Australia where I live diesel is now AU$3 per litre. That is about US$2 per litre. Thar approaches almost the same per gallon. Adding greatly to inflation, transport and store prices. Fishermen here, as well as farmers, are having the same problems as the French.

the french repeat their history and the rest follow. Us included, well overdue. Probably the only choice to save us all.

And that's not only the fishermen getting angry, but everyone... I live in Aude Département, an area heavily relying on grape and wine economy. But with climate change, there is a lot of farmer that are now forced to quit (or to farm other stuff).

This economic "stress" in my area adds to that, and i'm sure that we will see some big riots, i know for sure (by friends of mine that are farmers) that farmers are preparing to join the strike, they have been stocking up in the last week with stuff to make barricades (dirt, stone etc...)
