Indonesia began construction of its first domestically built Scorpene Evolved submarine with the initial steel cutting for Scorpène Republic of Indonesia #1 at PT PAL’s Surabaya shipyard.
The project is part of a technology transfer program with Naval Group. Construction is expected to take 96 months, with overall program progress reported at approximately 20.5%.
An Indonesian Navy task force is undergoing progressive training in France to operate the submarine.
