In the same way most of us agree that Russia could use a nuke in Ukraine and more than likely not experience a nuclear retaliatory strike, the US could use a nuke in Iran with no strategic military response. There would be economic and diplomatic consequences, but no one would launch a nuke at the US if they took out Tehran.

Multiple US Air Force aircraft were damaged in an Iranian ballistic missile attack on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan overnight on September 8 and 9, 2026.

CBS News correspondent Jennifer Jacobs said on September 9, 2026, that one A-10 Thunderbolt II was struck and left with a missing wing, and that roughly eight F-15s sustained light damage and were returned to service.
