Iran's Supreme Leader, the ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has called for all Muslims to wage jihad against Israel. He made this call publicly, with a rifle at his side while doing so. If I am not mistaken, rifles in photos and videos of jihadists are very important, as their position and placement have significant meanings.

I would not read anything into that particular photo. Iran has been working toward the destruction of Israel for a long time. They are probably worried about US intervention if they attack directly right now. Should have done it a couple years ago when there was a different US administration. They may be waiting now, likely to fully develop their nuclear weapons.
