Former Qatari Prime Minister Hamad bin Jassim Al-Thani attacked Israel, saying, "What is happening in the Gulf has become a war in every sense of the word. If we do not see a solution in the coming days, the situation may escalate beyond what is expected. It is clear that there are elements who want to continue this war. I am referring here to Israel, whose ports have remained open in the Mediterranean and the Red Sea, regardless of the circumstances."

On Wednesday, Tehran claimed to have struck the Abraham Lincoln carrier with multiple cruise and ballistic missiles, but the Pentagon called the claim “pure fiction”.

On Sunday, Iranian media claimed that a “massive blaze” was caused by a strike on a US destroyer refuelling in the Indian Ocean.

Washington did not comment on that strike.

Russia has, for decades, supplied weaponry to Iran, including advanced air defence systems, trainer and fighter jets, helicopters, armoured vehicles and sniper rifles, worth billions of dollars.

The E-3 Sentry jet damaged by an Iranian attack this week was part of a dwindling American fleet of early-warning aircraft with no easy replacements ready for service.

The jet serves as an airborne warning and control system aircraft, or AWACS, which can scan broad areas for friendly and enemy aircraft and missiles and help direct fire, acting as a nerve center for battles from the air.

Yemen's Houthis carried out a second missile attack against Israel on Saturday following an earlier strike in the morning, the group said in a statement.

The group said the attack "coincided with the military operations being carried out" by Hezbollah and Iran. The statement said the group would continue to carry out military operations "until the criminal enemy ceases its attacks and aggression."
