I'd like to address this. What caught my attention was the reference to the Chernobyl accident. I've seen this claim a number of times.
The Chernobyl accident can not possibly be the third trumpet. Let me quote the relevant scripture.
Rev 8:10: Then the third angel sounded: And a great star fell from heaven, burning like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water.
Rev 8:11 The name of the star is Wormwood. A third of the waters became wormwood, and many men died from the water, because it was made bitter.
This event affects a third of the rivers and a third of the springs of water. It also states that "many men" died from the waters. Chernobyl in no way comes near the amount of devastation described by this event. While some claim (without evidence) that Chernobyl affected a third of the rivers in its area, Revelation makes no such limitation. Scripture says "of the rivers", not "of the rivers in the area."
Additionally, it states that "many men" died from the water. Yet there is very little evidence that more than a handful of people died from Chernobyl, most of those were the firefighters and other workers who where there trying to stop the thing from blowing up. Ancillary deaths are few, scattered, and debatable as to actual cause. Again, nowhere near the numbers that Revelation implies when it says "many" die, especially considering the vast numbers that Revelation already deals with.
Another difficulty in the above list is that the judgements are linear. One after the other. Not folded on themselves as the above list would have it.
Revelation is one of my favourite books of the Bible. Love reading it. And it's the only book of the Bible where the reader is given a blessing for actually reading it.
