The new Civ is available to buy and download tomorrow February 11th! Already pre-ordered.

@DEFCON Warning System a couple months back when I complained that we would not be able to keep the civilization we started with once new tech era is reached is not true anymore.

AFTER the major backlash they removed that feature and you can now choose to stay the civilization you started out with. Hence why I am now buying it and excited for it.

They did keep the feature to change civilization each new tech era. BUT now gives you choice to stay as the civilization you started with. Cheers!!!

I know I helped in that. I commented on every Civ official video about it on all platforms, went to 2K discord and complained, got all my freinds to complain, and generally got the word out of their HUGE mistake to force us to change civs each new era. Made as much of a PR problem as one individual like me could and others jumped in.

THANKFULLY they came to their sense and didn't do that very retarded thing. Excuse my French.

Did they?! I haven't seen that mentioned on the Steam forum for Civ VII.

Playing it now. So far so good. Like the graphics, I like how the cities grow. They have taken out the worker which I strongly like, improvements are made when you expand the city. Diplomacy is now much more relevant and has bonuses.

I have not yet reached new era. But when I do... it better not force me to change civs. Will let yall know when I get to that part.

I'm glad to hear that.

That is what I have been reading. Some people are complaining that a Leader in the Ancient Era wouldn't be one in the Modern.

I swear, someone always complains about something. lol

2 hours in playing and I'm liking it. Still have not reached new age. They are really drawing out the antiquity age which I like, gives you a more solid foundation I'm assuming for the future eras.

Few things I particularly like so far:
  • REMOVED WORKER, tile improvements are now done when you expand your city each time your city population point goes up as I said already.

  • IMPROVEMENTS, improved tiles worked on by city through each population point can be further replaced or improved with better buildings that you unclock as you research new tech. One thing about the previous civ is districts where permanent, they are now able to be replaced which I really love about that.

  • CITY WALLS, are now highly customizable. It's not just for the city, you can expand the wall and it's protection to other tiles and improvements. Very cool.

  • DIPLOMACY is now very useful and encouraging to use diplomacy more now than it gives bonuses. Plus it is much more realistic. BUT diplomacy can only be done if you have enough "influence" points which you get so much each turn and can make more each turn by building certain buildings/improvements.

  • NAVIGABLE RIVERS! Very cool and adds a lot of realism to the game.

  • COMBAT, is intriguing and graphics are quite nice too when units fight.

  • THE SCOUT, has become much more coop and useful too. Few new features added to the scout which makes early exploring fun!

  • RESOURCE MANAGEMENT, now when you develop "luxury" resource it doesn't get applied/used for your whole civilization, you must choose each individual luxury resource and designated/dedicate it to only one city of your choosing and only that city gets the happiness benefits.

  • Natural disaster occur, but not to frequent so not a bother and adds realism.

That's all I have so far. Still after 2 hours of playing I have yet to progress to next age. Which again I like that they are dragging out the early stages longer. Always felt we got to the future era too quickly in other civs.

I just made it to next era. YOU CAN KEEP YOUR CIVILIZATION. It does give you a option to switch civs. But it also gives you the option to stay as who you started. So happy you get to keep your civilization! @DEFCON Warning System

Each new age you get to pick a upgrade or perk for your empire. That's about it for difference in reaching new era and now the option to switch or remain current civ you playing as on map.

My understanding is that when an Age changes, it changes for everyone. No more individual progress. Is that still true?
Yes the age changes for everyone but you do get the chance still each age to get better units then others as normaly since I've seen (now in modern era) you start out with basic unit of era and you can research three upgrades to units which can be much over powering if other civs have not researched them yet.

But overall I am happy with the new civ and would recommend anyone to buy it. Very happy of course we get to keep our civ though throughout the ages and so many cool new features and again really happy they did away with the worker and made diplomacy more realistic and engaging.

you start out with basic unit of era and you can research three upgrades to units which can be much over powering if other civs have not researched them yet.
For example in modern era you start out with ironclad or drought naval class units and can later research upgrades for them and turn them into battleships same era, and you can achieve that before others and dominate them.

Same for landships, you start out with landships on modern era then later can upgrades them to tanks. Which again you can achieve before others and smack others around with them before they get it.

So it's not exactly what your thinking where they put everyone on same level when you can definitely progress and achieve things before others to give you upper hand. @DEFCON Warning System

Also really love the graphics and the graphics of the units fighting. Overall 7.5 out of 10 stars.

Also if your use to civilization game mechanics then there won't be much of learning curve. They did add features and remove some things, but overall they stuck to the basic game mechanics as all other civs.

Doesn't this mean that one player can just sit back and dedicate his resources to something else while another player does the grunt work of advancing the Age?
No because if you don't research quickly to upgrade your units you will quickly be ran over. But that's where it gives you the chance to get ahead and run everyone over with the new upgraded units for that era.

I just started playing Civ 7. I like it better than 6 (which I thoroughly disliked). I have been playing it on the PS4 or on Nintendo something (Switch?).

My observations:
  • Complex user interface and user experience. There is a lot of information on the screen, and some if it takes up valuable screen real estate. Many important functions are embedded in menus & screens that can be a bit complex to get into. In some cases, it's difficult to see certain valuable information at a quick glance, like what is my city working on? The complex user interface is compounded by the next item, which is
  • It's annoyingly buggy. (If they aren't bugs, let's call them annoying features....)
    • When a merchant is created (to establish a trade route), it immediately sends screen focus to some other random player's city that you might have interest in trading with, whether or not you actually can trade with that city. You have to back out of that mode before you can start moving your merchant to a place you really want to send it to.
    • I have issues with units periodically where I select skip turn. The interface then tells me I have to "command units". When I select that option, it sends me back to the unit I told to skip turn on. This gets me stuck in a loop between skip turn and "command units" until I eventually just do something else with the unit I was trying to skip turns on.
    • There are times that I hit some sequence of buttons accidentally, and the UI just locks up until I open the main menu and then close it.
  • The game keeps you busy. There is a lot of things to manage in parallel. In Civ 5, in the early years with one or 2 cities, you might spend several turns doing nothing while your cities built a unit or a building. In Civ 7, you have to manage technology, civics, city growth/expansion, resource allocation, "population" allocation within a city, and robust diplomacy with both other civilizations and city states. Oh, and speaking on independent city states....
  • There are no more barbarians like Civ 5. Instead, they are spawned by hostile independent settlements (city-states), that you can either destroy or use diplomacy to make nice with. Then you can use your diplomatic influence to with them to obtain additional military units or perform other actions against other civs.
I've only just got to the point where age changed from Antiquity to Exploration. I selected a new civilization, but the leader remained the same. This leads to some interesting combinations, like Queen Isabella, leader of Egypt. I started out as Caesar Augustus, leader of Greece. Now I am Caesar Augustus, leader of Spain.

I found out (through playing) you cannot play forever or endless mode. Not even the famous "wait one more turn" option if someone wins.

Forgot to come back and tell people that here.

Just that alone ruined the game for me and have not played it since finding out no matter what the game will force you to end the game after so many turns on last era.

Way to ruin a franchise civ! Waited over 10 years for this and they give us this plate of 💩.

Boooooo! That's one thing I liked with Civ 5 - after I won (usually diplomatic or cultural victories), I would then go wage war and unleash the nukes on other Civs that were a pain in the butt... even if they still only had ironclads and rifleman as their most advanced units....:devilish:

It was a option in every civ, even civ 3,4,5,&6 To be able to continue the game even if it has ended or victory conditions met. Or there where modes like sandbox such as "Domination" where the game only would end once you literally defeat every country on the map. Essentially forever mode.

But for some dumb fuck reason they didn't do it on civ 7. :(
