US sees narrow opportunity to reverse course in Niger after coup
Washington's objective is to support West Africa's regional bloc ECOWAS in its efforts to reverse the takeover.
"Our posture will depend on what happens over the next days and week in terms of whether or not we're able to help the region and the Nigeriens reverse this."
ECOWAS on Sunday gave Niger coup leaders one week to reinstate ousted Bazoum or face sanctions and the possible use of force.
The U.S., former colonial power France and other Western states have troops in Niger and had been working with the government battling militant forces linked to Islamic State and al Qaeda.
There are about 1,100 U.S. troops in Niger, where the U.S. military operates from two bases, and so far there have not been any announcements of a change in posture.

There is a narrow opportunity to reverse last week's military takeover in Niger and U.S. diplomatic and military posture there will depend on whether the democratically elected government is reinstated in the coming days and week, a senior U.S. official said on Monday.

Niger: a 30 billion FCFA bond issue planned by the country has been cancelled
West African leaders on Sunday imposed sanctions on Niger, including halting all financial transactions and freezing national assets, in an attempt to force the junta, which seized power in the Sahel country last week, to restore constitutional order. Niger, which is one of the poorest countries in the world and relies heavily on external aid and financing, is expected to issue two more bonds on the regional market on August 7 and 17, according to the regional debt management agency's issuance schedule. This operation was cancelled on Monday.

URGENT: putschists have one week to reinstall President Bazoum (ECOWAS)
The long-awaited Abuja summit on the coup d'état in Niger has delivered its verdict. Several sanctions with immediate effect were taken, and the sub-regional institution gave the putschists a week "to release and reinstall the democratically elected president, Mohamed Bazoum. In addition, ECOWAS has imposed travel bans on military officers involved in the coup, and does not rule out military intervention.

The West African Nations of Burkina Faso and Mali have released a Joint-Declaration stating a “Armed Intervention” by ECOWAS or France against the Military Junta in Niger would be considered a Declaration of War against their Countries and that they will assist Niger in any Invasion.

from what i heard niger has 1100 US troops and they were there to secure the uranium mines and now it looks like they might be at huge risk.
