I saw this video a long time ago. Thought it was hilarious and well made.

I thought so too. The song cheers me up immensely, as I am a huge Tertis fan.

You do have to wonder though if Tetris is meant to symbolize the problems with a communist state. To quote a line from the song,

"What's the point of it all, if you're building a wall and in front of your eyes it disappears?"

I had never seen that one. Brilliant!
The Tetrus program was written in the soviet union, yes? (Not much of a video game type, having been 'lucky' enough to play the real ones...)

Kind of. The point of Tetris is to make enough lines to get beyond 100,000 points, in which you then launch a rocket to space. I have only done that once in the many years I've been playing. It was originally made as a proof of concept for software the Russians had made.

From Wikipedia:
Tetris is a Soviet tile-matching puzzle video game originally designed and programmed by Alexey Pajitnov. It was released on June 6, 1984, while he was working for the Dorodnicyn Computing Centre of the Academy of Science of the USSR in Moscow

Bonus facts:
According to research from Dr. Richard Haier, et al. prolonged Tetris activity can also lead to more efficient brain activity during play. When first playing Tetris, brain function and activity increases, along with greater cerebral energy consumption, measured by glucose metabolic rate. As Tetris players become more proficient, their brains show a reduced consumption of glucose, indicating more efficient brain activity for this task. Even moderate playing of Tetris (half-an-hour a day for three months) boosts general cognitive functions such as "critical thinking, reasoning, language and processing" and increases cerebral cortex thickness.

I've heard about this... I'm a pretty big fan of Tetris, so seeing those stats is a nice sign.

Another bonus fact:

Yelling the lyrics "Pointless work for mindless pay! This is one game I shall not play!" is a bad thing to yell at work (not my fault my boss is never around)

I'm not gonna lie... I've had this memorized for quite a while now.
I am the man who arranges the blocks that descend upon me from up above. They come down and I spin them around, til they fit in the ground like hand in glove. Sometimes it seems that to move blocks is fine, and the lines will be formed as they fall...then I see that I have misjudged it; I should not have nudged it after all. Can I have a long one please? Why must these infernal block tease??

"...Yelling the lyrics "Pointless work for mindless pay! This is one game I shall not play!" is a bad thing to yell at work (not my fault my boss is never around)..."

Apparently, singing old negro spirituals from the slave era is frowned on in the work place as well! Damned CVR's! Shoulda pulled the breaker...
