Russia’s Nuclear Weapons Are Now in Belarus:
Russia has moved tactical nuclear weapons from its own borders into neighboring Belarus, several hundred miles closer to NATO territory, Western officials confirmed to Foreign Policy, as Russian President Vladimir Putin threatens a wider military showdown with the alliance over its continued support for Ukraine.
The move, which Putin first announced in June of last year, is likely aimed at ramping up pressure on NATO’s eastern flank. It follows years of nuclear saber-rattling intended to scare the West into paring back its support for Ukraine, now in its third year of war against Russia’s invasion, though top NATO officials insist that the move doesn’t drastically change the nature of Russia’s military threats to NATO.
Arvydas Anusauskas, Lithuania’s defense minister, was the first top official within the NATO alliance to confirm the news of the deployment. He warned that the risks of Western inaction were high, citing the lackluster response in the West to Russia moving more nuclear weapons to the Kaliningrad Peninsula, which is bounded by Poland and Lithuania on either side.

Old news.
I thought so too. But then recalled we never got offcial confirmation (other than from Russia) Western offcials and media said it was still unclear & that the construction to house the nuclear weapons was still ongoing.

But now we got offcial confirmation from Western offcials that Russia nuclear weapons are now indeed housed in Belarus.

I falls under fog of war. We will neve know what happens in real time and can assume that when a nation or the military announces something a transfer in the future, it has already been done. When it is confirmed, that means they are secure and compounds built etc etc. Why move a weapon that can hit anywhere in the world 100 miles closer?

I'm not trying to be alarmist or even raise the alarm. I'm just trying to highlight US officials now have confirmed & acknowledge that Russian nuclear weapons are positioned/housed in Belarus. I personally believe this is somthing worth noting & highlighting. 💁‍♂️

Tactical nukes are generally not global-reach weapons mounted on ICBMs, although there's no reason why you couldn't do that, I suppose. They are usually aircraft-launched, mounted on SRBMs, or even fired by artillery. That 100 miles does reduce time to target and reaction time from the west. To my knowledge, Belarus only has Russian tactical nuclear weapons, not strategic.

All that being said, this really doesn't change anything and is more of a psychological movement than strategic.

Old news.
Yeah, wasn't this already a thing?

More proof that the US government won't tell the public what they need to know until it is too late and demonstrates the need of a site like ours.

Tactical nukes not intercontinental. Apologies RIFFRAFF commented before reading on. 🙄🤦‍♂️😅😅😅

I really believe that this is what set Macron off finally. Putin is moving tactical nukes closer to Kiev to decrease the likelihood of them being shot down by missile defense and reduce warning time. I find it highly unlikely that this site would react fast enough to such an event. They threatened a while ago but Russia just finally moved them. Any nukes launched from Belarus makes them fair game for retaliation at the very least. This is a real risk and the most likely scenario where nukes are used along with the sabotage of the NPP.
