Russia is moving ahead with plans to develop a new aircraft carrier

Bah, I doubt it will get finished. The only thing they can use to pay the workers is some dirt and some freshly imported snow from Canada (yes, all snow comes from Canada). But wait...They probably don't have the money for the snow...or the dirt...

???

Or in a less metaphorical way, they don' t have any money to pay the workers to work on the aircraft carrier.

Will it require an updated tug boat? :P

Doesn't worry me one bit. America's navy would easily wipe Russian navy off the map.

Really... do they need one? I personally don't think so.

But good read.

I'm not sure because we've been lax and Russia may have this ability:

Good point. You never know, even in this day and age.

Super russian jamming system...yeah, riight...like the PAK-FA 'super fighter', and Armata 'super tank' .
As for an aircraft carrier...if they start now, it may be ready for sea trials in twenty years. Or not.
The russians could build thirty carriers, and, so what? They don't know how to use them effectively. No escorts, no unrep. No clue, no effective naval traditions or experience in modern naval operations. No Petty Officers or Rating worth a pinch of shit, no worth while officer group, no decent naval combat aircraft-yes, I mean those antique sea flankers and sea fulcrums. This is a non-issue.
How good is the russian navy?

The Project 61 'KASHIN' class destroyer Otvazhnyy burns in the Black Sea, 30 August 1974. She suffered a fire and explosion in her aft SA-N-1 SAM magazine. The fire was evidently extinguished, but damage to the ship, combined with accumulated firefighting water, caused her loss.
Read-ineptitude. And this is not an exception. Soviet warships are 'sketchy' on a good day, and I cannot see anything has changed.
For comparison.

22 November, 1975, the Cruiser USS Belknap collided with the carrier USS John F Kennedy while close manoeuvring during night flying operations off Sicily. The collision destroyed her upperworks, and a ruptured JP-4 line on Kennedy hosed her down with jet fuel, sparking a massive fire. The training and quality of her sailors, and the fearless response of the USS Rickets, Bordelon and Pharris had the fires extinguished, and the Belknap saved and returned to service.
Canadian-American institute is a propaganda vector, nothing more.
Russian has nothing. This is why putin is busy jerking his nuclear schlong in front of any body who will stop to watch...again, the time has come.
Kill the troublemaker directly. Make these arschlitch understand that if you start trouble, death will come for you personally. Its a new age, and we need new tools to cope with these tin-plate despots, not the tired old chestnuts of ages gone by that exist only to preserve the privilege of the aristocracy.

I think you may be underestimating Russian Navy. Sure, compared to the US it may be a piece of junk, but all it really has to do is do the job.

Take a look at the movie Down Periscope. Sure, it's a comedy, but consider the underlying premise it presents. (And if nothing else, it's a darn funny movie!)

I am over-estimating the soviet navy, if anything. Saw a Slava class CG when he visited 'Couverville a while back.
What a rusted out tub of crap! The word, straight from some jack-ski tarrs...propaganda barge with almost no combat capability, nothing working, even the heating and refrigeration broke down, crew eating tinned sardines for a week. Very unhappy sailors. And watching him coming along side...well, like down periscope, it was comedy.
The russian navy has some nuisance value. For a week or so.
Worry about putin and the nuclear card, because he has nothing else.

Well damn, it really makes me rethink if we could win a war with Russia.

We have the technology. But is it reliable? If a war to break out.... we'd see weapons that we never glimpsed at.

I really don't have hope in our military tech after reading that. Thanks for the link though

The West has this as well. And I'm quite sure the Aegis are now equipped with ECCMs that basically receive the EM signal, replicate it, and send it back out.

This is just the latest in over 8 years of other links where the West utilizes EMP pulse weapons. This is a missle, but there are vehicle mounted, aircraft mounted, ship mounted, etc. I was really surprised the Cook didn't have appropriate CMs to this. I bet they all do now. (if there was a secret weapon at all)

Notice it hasn't happened since, has it? And just today the RF chased off the USS Ross without incident. If Putin had this, he'd be using it in the shower. Why wouldn't he want to 'demoralize' the US Navy?
