Russia’s Defense Ministry is reinforcing the 20th combined army in the Western Military District. As a source at the General Staff told TASS, the army being reformatted will be complemented with more units and troops from other military districts.

"The General Staff and the Western Military District’s command have been working tightly on determining and specifying the personnel and hardware of the 20th combined army," the source said. "In particular, questions are being decided of complementing the army with units from other military districts and forming more mechanized infantry, armour, artillery, missile, reconnaissance and other brigades," he said.

"The amount of work to be accomplished is vast, indeed," he said, adding that the 20th army should be recreated anew by December 1. "The army’s command center is based on the premises of the former 1st command of the Air Force and Air Defense (the current 6th Air Force and Air Defense Army) before it was moved to St. Petersburg.

The army will be “reformatted” by December 1st in the district that encompasses 2 million square kilometers of airspace and 3,000 kilometers along the border with Europe.

Russia still making big moves in the Ukraine region. I wounder if this is in response to NATO's new Spearhead Force of 40k troops. Also with the Mink II agreement being broken on all side, could this be another push for war? We've all seen the reports of US military being caught at the airport en-route to Ukraine and the Pro-Russian separatist launching new flash-points, I highly doubt Russia will tolerate another proxy war, especially if its on there doorstep. Getting scary out there.

This is a big maneuver. Offensive in the near-future?

I see an offensive possible in the not to distant future. All the troop movements and military focus in these regions, I believe, has a greater purpose than just your average a military parade. Who will strike first, the UKR or RF? Both sides seem to be itching for a resolve.

I'm pretty sure that Russia is not going to launch an offensive, even with a flimsy pretext cooked up. I think it would have to be in response to a legitimate provocation; even in spite of the sanctions, they think they can outlast Ukraine in attrition.

I think there is a reasonably good chance of a new UKR offensive before winter, especially with the rising prominence of the Right Sector militias and political leadership. There may be enough momentum for an offensive with out them, but one is certain if they take power nationally.
If that doesnt provoke a massive Russian counteroffensive, I think they can succeed in liberating the Donbas; it would be their last chance to do so.
Crimea is already off the table; the measage of nuclear retaliation was sent loud and clear against attempts to change its status by force

I think we're a little bit lucky that Ukraine isn't a part of NATO, because Article 4 or 5 could've been activated by now, and we would surely be at war, or dead (nuclear holocaust).

Absolutely; thats why its insane to me that I hear people demanding for Ukraine to be allowed to join NATO now. Instantly we'd be in a world war.

Agreed. Unless there is some post ex facto law that states that if a country is already at war/in a conflict NATO cannot automatically intervene, we'd be in trouble.

Sometimes I wonder if there is a benefit to living in the middle of nowhere, Wyoming.

Over 8000 pieces of weaponry being moved to Russia's Western District.

Um wow... that's pretty much all their latest gear -
Sukhoi Su-35S (NATO reporting name Flanker-E) supermaneuverable multirole fighters, Mi-28N helicopters, Tornado-G multiple rocket launchers, S-400 new generation anti-aircraft weapon systems, Pantsir-S weapon systems and T-72B3 tanks.

The oldest thing there is t-72B3 which entered service is 2013. Those systems are nothing to mess around with.
