The Russian Armed Forces is receiving state-of-the-art equipment and is able to equip a good portion of its units with it.

Many ICBMs and aircrafts are being modernize.

I feel like we're gonna see a sharp increase in defense spending everywhere in the world.

Yes, but US and NATO a day late and a dollar short. Like WWII, we will be playing catch up initially. Our enemies know this and will try to counter it.

This is all about the dollar. China has set up an entire trading and banking platform to bypass the dollar and our allies have joined it! Once the worlds central banks realize they don't need our dollars, they will come home to roost. Causing massive hyperinflation on an already severely strained economy.

That's what Jade Helm is about. That's what the Iran deal is about. That's what Ukraine is all about. Hate to be negative but the world will not be aligned the same by 2017. And the US will be a very different place.

It's out there if you look honestly and objectively. Thanks for the info.

Today there was a rally in Scotland calling for the UK to abandon a nuclear deterrent.

Yes we need an active peace movement in this country, but not one which parrots the lines of the 1980s. If we do what the Snp wants, we might as well invite Russia to bomb us into oblivion. But we need someone instead to stand up to US neocon madness and Russia provocation.

I tried to reason with Cnd in an email but they don't want to listen to anyone who wants to retain a nuclear deterrent in the face of this madness.

Hold on, giving up Nuclear Detterent is a two way street, either everybody gives it up, or nobody.
If you give it up solo, other countries will be able to nuke you without you being able to do shit, that's why it's called DETTERENT.
It's a balance, so the entire world needs to give it up or the balance will shift to one side, giving that side the upper hand.

Yes, I agree, which is why CND's current stance is ridiculous.

We need a Peace Movement in this country, but we had the same argument in the 1980s, and Michael Heseltine used to say he was part of the 'real Peace Movement' because he opposed unilateral nuclear disarmament. Same holds true today.

Keep the nuclear deterrent, improve airforce capability to deter Russian bomber raids, but also use political pressure to put brakes on pointless NATO/US expansionism and provocation in places like Ukraine and Georgia.

The unilateral disarmers of the SNP and the government sending trainers to Ukraine are equally irresponsible threats to peace for the UK. :(

Seems Russia is making the first move.

Sanctions and oil price collapse reduces Russian income collapsing Ruble. Russian military build up and NATO threat provoking Russian military exercise expenditures drains the kitty. Candle burns on both ends. Soon there will be no more candle much less flame. Best light nuclear fuse before candle burns out. :ugeek:

That's the one thing I don't get. Why are they spending so much money when their economy is going to pot?

Why does any tin-plate despot blow money he does not have while sitting on a crumbling infrastructure, imploding economy, poisoned ecology, prisons and mass graves chock a block with dissidents, severely out numbered minority ruling claque, and small man syndrome?
1)The kick backs, man! Blat! Shows meh de money! More than half of the money thrown at military spending in 'great' russia ends up back in the pockets of the oligarchs.
2) Russia is the greatest! The best! look at all the tanks, and nukes! Russia is great and mighty! Believe, or they're going to get all cranky and kill you until their point is made.
3) Russia is the workers paradise, its so frabjous, and wonderful that its is the envy of the world, especially the US, and NATO, which is ready to invade!
Because russia is so incredible! And who wouldn't want a hole sawn through the floor for indoor plumbing?

Look into the collective inferiority complex, and you will find your motivation.
That, and money.
And Privilege.
And Caviare, Dacha's, Latvian dance girls, swiss numbered accounts...

What does this have to do with anything?

Latvian dance hall girls, should have said...like 'booze and hookers', a metaphor for corruption and avarice...don't worry. Like defence spending here- north and south-most of the russian armaments budget will be wasted. Is being wasted. That new super tank ... Could you jam any more stuff into a single platform. What does that sucker weigh?
