This is kind of a stretch in occupying this size of metropolitan area.
it’s just vast. consider the NYC corridor to Washington. 50 million people and over 50,000 square miles.
There is 1000’s of square miles of urban landscape in California also with millions of inhabitants. China might have an army large enough in solders to overwhelm and occupy this amount of land.
It there is no feasible way for their million man army to reach the US currently. After or before the first troops arrive. Nukes are going to start blooming over any Chinese fleet crossing the pacific.

There is no conventional way to defeat the US militarily. It is not logistically possible.

So your back to nukes or long term cultural and civic appropriation of the nation from within.

Only two ways to do it and we are already fighting one others wars
 
A conventional Russian invasion of the US mainland (not counting Alaska) is absolutely out of the question. However, a Russia/China alliance (yes, it's happening) using either Canada or Mexico as a springboard for an armed invasion - that's a far more realistic scenario, and one I would be worried about if I were running things in DC.

Nope; their highest odds are right now (if you define "defeat America" as "cause the USA, but not Russia, to stop existing").

Of course they could always take a draw by launching a nuclear war - but why would they, given that things are going their way and a Russian puppet has been successfully installed in the White House?

(For the purposes of this conversation I assume the USSR was equivalent to Russia.)

It's safe to assume we would at the very least remain at Condition Yellow for the duration of the war? I can imagine you yourself would have pointed out you felt that no nuclear conflict was imminent due to US unwillingness to nuke their own soil but that the situation was fluid given the state of war between two nuclear powers.

Tough call. Certainly Blue. Yellow I don't know.

Was talking later in the war. Also NATO probably doesn't necessarily need to wait for the United States to be liberated since the Army V Corps is already in Europe and the Russians made their homeland vulnerable by allocating most of their military to attacking the US creating a rare window that won't remain open forever. Russia's occupation may outlive Russia itself.
 
I see no scenario in the current existing world where Russia or China could launch a conventional invasion of the US.
Nuke, emp, cyber yeah of course. But an invasion and occupation?

Russia could not even reach Kiev with an armored column. And that was with air and artillery support.
And China was repelled by India in the mountains.
Neither nation in recent conflicts has demonstrated the logistical ability to force project much beyond their boarders. When they had direct lines of logistical, air, and missile artillery.

The time it took for the US and allies to maneuver the army corps to the ME for the gulf war and desert storm during peace time conditions was months.

Are we to believe the US would stand by for months and watch Russian, Chinese, or both into Canada or Mexico without responding or preparing?
Or as the invasion force became critical we would would not resort to nukes?

This is just academic.
If we find ourselves in this position the actual war for control would have already been waged and settled. Occupation would no longer be a fight with the American nation but with regional militias and insurgents.

The 28th Amendment would've certainly been passed early in the war temporarily suspending presidential term limits thereby allowing George W. Bush to run again likely choosing a Democrat (Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, or Wesley Clark) as his new running mate while Dick Cheney goes back to his old job as Secretary of Defense. This is assuming of course elections are even held - if not I believe Congress would be required to choose a new president by Inauguration Day though they could probably legally choose incumbent President Bush since the 22nd Amendment's "No person can be ELECTED to the office of President more than twice." could provide a loophole. From there Bush can nominate another VP. This naturally would eliminate the need for a 28th Amendment to suspend the 22nd though I imagine new amendments for other subjects are inevitable given the circumstances.
 
Now that we've returned to Green Alert in real-life, at what point in my Georgia Mix-Up alternate history would we be returning to Green Alert following more then a year of being constantly at Blue and Yellow Alert thanks to the war?

1: Russia unconditionally surrenders.
2: NATO occupies all Russian territory
3: Russia's entire nuclear arsenal is secured and accounted for.
4: NATO has taken all of Russia's nuclear materials of any kind.
