Note the location. By the way, last time I checked, an S-400 has a top range of 400 km range, or 248 miles. Not enough to strike the mainland United States, but far enough that you could strike a ship that got a little too frisky, or a plane for that matter.

I think the top range is 600 km or 373 miles........but I could be wrong. Anyway, it is interesting how the Russians are continuing to build up on their north, northwest and northeast flanks.

Is this not the same aeea where Russia shot down the Korean passenger plane, I think in the 90s?

Also beefing up this area could give them more control of the northern sea route as a choke point for the Arctic.

Those s400 could take our our bombers if we ever decided to bomb russia.

But the Arctic is imo the future front line. Can the s400 shoot down a icbm?

Looking at the scale on the map, seems mostly a defensive posture. It will provide some stand-off capability, but doesn't have the range to be used offensively. Unless, of course a totally insane and unrealistic move of providing ABMS in conjunction with a Sino-Russian nuclear first strike. But I don't think that's the plan. Just sealing their airspace, IMO.
