Scenes from Spokane, Washington, as a wildfire moves through the area, burning homes.

I don’t live on the eastside any more, but I have family who have been dealing with this fire season and there was a very concerning fire the other night when this caught, particularly dangerous situation modifiers all across the area. Eastern Washington routinely burns and generally mismanagement isn’t as big of a problem these days as it’s fairly normal. What is NOT normal is for these fires to enter large cities and become urban wildland interface.

Spokane is under serious threat. Eastern Washington is often economically, socially, and politically disadvantaged. Eastern Oregon is also on fire and some of the fires have been denied some federal assistance. This is the worst fire season in decades and is still early. Winter was very very mild and short in the Pacific Northwest.

Some beloved members of this forum live in the eastside and I hope for their safety as the current situation is bad and likely will get worse.
