While the U.S. government banned China from buying our most advanced chips, these same Silicon Valley data companies are selling the far more valuable ingredient — the specialized human expertise and training datasets that teach AI how to reason, code, and dominate complex tasks — straight to Beijing’s top AI labs
.According to Forbes:• Mercor is working with Tencent and Alibaba• Surge AI is supplying Tencent• AfterQuery is working with Ant Group and Alibaba• Turing has reportedly worked with ByteDance. Those companies are all now all tainted by the CCP.
China’s leading AI labs are spending roughly $500 million every year buying this American training data. These are not generic datasets. They include the same expert-written rubrics, quality controls, and knowledge pipelines originally built for OpenAI, Anthropic, and even U.S. government customers.
The U.S. built a fortress around chips but left the human expertise that teaches models how to reason, code, and handle complex professional work essentially unregulated. Now, Silicon Valley is cashing checks from the Chinese Communist Party.
Big Tech and these Silicon Valley firms must be held fully accountable for selling out America’s AI advantage to China. Prioritizing profits over national security is not “business as usual”. It is a betrayal that demands investigations, sanctions, and real consequences.
This is how America loses the AI war.
