Chinese state media reports President Xi Jinping spoke by phone with US President Donald Trump on Feb 4.

The Chinese bulletin is brief and does not include a topic list or any substantive readout. The call comes ahead of a widely discussed possible Trump trip to China in April.

Trump says he just had an “excellent” call with Xi Jinping (Feb 4) covering trade, Taiwan, Iran, and Russia’s war in Ukraine. He also claimed China will buy U.S. oil and gas, and increase U.S. agricultural purchases, including soybeans, 20M tons this season, 25M next season, per Trump.

Couldn't post it on Twitter. Twitter blocks Chinese government websites. Well, most of them anyways. Anything ending in a .cn is typically blocked most places.

China’s MFA says Beijing will not join nuclear disarmament negotiations for now, arguing its nuclear forces are “by no means at the same level” as the US and Russia. Spokesperson Lin Jian also called the expiration of New START “truly regrettable” and urged Washington to resume strategic stability dialogue with Moscow.

China’s MFA called a US allegation of a covert Chinese “nuclear explosive test” (June 2020) “completely groundless,” accusing Washington of fabricating a pretext to resume nuclear testing. The same day, China’s MoD warned that any “Taiwan independence” move to “provoke war,” including a reported plan to forward-deploy HIMARS to Penghu and Dongyin, would lead to “their own destruction.”

NOTE:
These are spokesperson statements aimed at deterrence and narrative shaping, not independent technical evidence. The HIMARS angle is framed as a response to reporting, not a disclosed PLA operational change. The nuclear claim remains disputed in public reporting, and Beijing’s response is a political denial rather than a detailed technical rebuttal.

JASDF fighters from the Northern Air Defense Force and other units scrambled in response.

Taiwan’s MOFA welcomed a European Parliament resolution on EU strategic defense and security partnerships, highlighting language calling to deepen EU security and defense cooperation with Taiwan and warning of China as a challenge to European and Indo-Pacific security. Taiwan’s readout also emphasizes the report’s focus on EU dependence on China for critical raw materials as a vulnerability, “derisking,” and China as an enabler of Russia’s war against Ukraine.

It is currently known that some government officials want to lift the ban on the import of nuclear weapons into Japan. At the same time, allowing the United States to do so. The idea is as follows: the United States will be allowed to deploy tactical nuclear weapons on Japanese territory as a deterrent to China and North Korea. The latter, as is known, have nuclear arsenals capable of reaching the Japanese archipelago.
I do not know if this is a done deal yet or not.
