Taiwan is acquiring 2,032 ALTIUS systems: This is a significant win for Anduril
• 1,554 ALTIUS-700M loitering munitions• 478 ALTIUS-600ISR intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft. For Taiwan, this provides thousands of distributed systems capable of finding, tracking and striking targets—exactly the kind of capability that could complicate an amphibious invasion.
For Anduril, it’s also an important test of the company’s manufacturing thesis. We’ve heard a lot about designing weapons for mass production. Orders measured in the thousands provide an opportunity to prove it. I’m particularly interested in what happens to ALTIUS unit economics as production scales. The important metric isn’t simply unit price. It’s the cost of reliably achieving the desired effect. If Anduril can drive that cost down while producing ALTIUS at this scale, this program could be significant well beyond Taiwan.
Taiwan finalized a NT$26.9 billion (~$847M) contract with Anduril for 2,032 ALTIUS systems (1,554 ALTIUS-700M loitering munitions for anti-armor strikes and 478 ALTIUS-600ISR for reconnaissance), announced today via government procurement channels as part of asymmetric defense buildup. Grok

The People’s Republic of China (PRC) has very likely established a permanent “law enforcement” presence and regularized scientific surveys in the waters east of Taiwan. The PRC deployed two China Coast Guard (CCG) ships to patrol the PRC’s claimed Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) east of Taiwan on June 1. The ships patrolled for over a month in a wide area extending approximately 200 nautical miles east of Taiwanese territory before being relieved by a new pair of CCG ships on July 4. This marked the first time the PRC maintained continuous CCG patrols east of Taiwan, as opposed to infrequent short-duration operations.

According to Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense, an unprecedented purge of senior Chinese military officers is producing rising unpredictability in Beijing just as the PLA accelerates preparations for a potential “annihilation strike.”
The newly submitted 2026 report says China is using near-daily air, naval, and Coast Guard patrols to tighten control around Taiwan and build an encirclement posture aimed at cutting off sea lanes.
It details plans for Type 076 amphibious assault ships, self-elevating landing barges, and AI deepfake tools for hybrid warfare, while stating that early combat operations would seek to destroy Taiwan’s command-and-control and air-defense systems.
Beijing is also planning low-Earth orbit constellations such as Guowang and Qianfan, plus upgraded BeiDou satellites, to keep communications and navigation intact after a landing.
The report says the PLA is folding Ukraine’s drone-swarm lessons into training even as it still lacks a full amphibious-assault capability.
Taiwan is shifting budget toward asymmetric defenses, including the multilayered Taiwan Shield air-defense network, Switchblade attack drones, and indigenous submarine programs, to raise the cost of any attack.
The US is in a hot war, Russia is in a hot war, China?
