The Best Nuclear War Films

I never knew there was a movie version of "Alas, Babylon!" The book is wonderful! It was my first experience of apocalyptic type fiction, I think I was about 10 or so when I read it and it really left a mark on me.
 
Im suprised no one hasn't mentioned "The day after"
 
I haven't seen Panic in year zero. On other movies, there are several--meaning each one has real good points to consider. The day after is good as far as the buildup to the event, if you listen to the background, instead of concentrating on the characters. Also, they used real footage from tests in the past. Yes, the characters do play a role, basically showing the different types of planning and attitudes. Threads is good for before the event, but not as good as the day after. The one thing that was most realistic in Threads was when the woman pissed her pants. Now, for the after effects after the event Nuclear War Unimaginable horror would be the most realistic for after the event--the mayhem, the marauders, the panic and conditions of various personalities.
 
Yeah. Day After is much better leading up. Threads is better for afters.

I liked Testament, though the war comes out of nowhere. No buildup at all.

The War Game is great. One of the few movies I don't own. Want to get a copy.

When the mom took a rifle to her daughter's rapist, that was a great moment because it was so out of her normal character.

I was just watched a short clip to remind me which one it was and overlaying modern prepper in to the 1950’s film. Thought of it just made me laugh

This is a very well made docudrama (depicting an alternate historical reality to the end of the cold war) about a war between NATO and the Soviet Union/Warsaw Pact. It is set at the end of the Cold War, when the Soviet Union started to fall apart:

If you are up for a radio play, this one is the best I have heard about this. Set during the first Cold War, CKFD Radio is in the middle of their "Golden Greats of the 50s" special when things start rapidly heating up

The video isn't original as you can tell by tittle,.. but the video hasn't been edited from the short film. But this takes place in current times so makes it much more realistic than older films.

I just finished watching The Day After again. It's eerie how similar the radio chatter in the opening scenes was to the days just prior to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Swap "Russians" for "Soviets" and "Ukraine" for "East Germany" into those broadcasts and it's spooky as hell.

Now my adrenaline's up. I need to go walk it off.
