Since you posted Freakazoid (great show) I'm reminded of the 90s cartoon "Dexter's Laboratory"

In one episode, Dexter was excited for a new episode of his favorite show and an EBS screen came up. He went all over town solving every emergency he could find with his giant robots, etc. so the EBS would go away. He does all this and comes home to find out it was just a really long test and he missed out on his show. I remember it being hilarious when I was a kid, wish I could find a clip of it.
