In regards to possible nuclear threat from the former USSR, I came upon this in Esquire Magazine, January 1962, pp. 56-57. This map illustrates an article entitled "Nine Places to Hide" by Caroline Bird: "If you really want to be safe from atomic destruction, here is the most up to date of survival surveys - a guide to the few remaining places on this earth where human life would not be destroyed." I actually don't remember seeing it before, but maybe I did. That's a long time ago. Regardless, interesting item.

No. If China made a push into Russian territory the Russians would have no option but to go nuclear. China knows this. I just don't see a Sino-Russian war on the horizon.

A very old story, China could easily backstab Russia and take huge amounts of lands, but unrealistic and very destructive for China too.
Russia isn't realy weakening and this exercise is headed for another goal.
More likely is that China is taking North Korea in case of another nuclear test and is trying to stop Russia from invading China since North Korea and Russia are allies.
China could hold off Russia for some time, meanwhile the USA and China finish off North Korea.

This should probably be moved to Discussions, but it wouldn't be the first time a nuclear power came under conventional attack. Egypt and Syria invaded Israel in 1973 despite knowing Israel had nuclear weapons. In fact, Russia and China (both nuclear armed) almost fought a war in 1969. Nuclear weapons are not a perfect deterrent.

China has already begun encroaching on and over Russian border years ago as farmland supposedly. Not new.
Totally agree Russia is one of Chinas pawns on the chest board. I talked about this about a yr ago or more. Anyway we won't be around to see those two go at it.

That map is straIght up garbage. For one, its far from an geographically accurate map to begin with, for two, it COMPLETELY fails to take into account earths geography for radiation effects. Assuming my town doesnt get nuked, I live across the mountains from Seattle. The radiation will not reach me. The bigger risk is Hanford Nuclear Power Plant being nuked and the radiation being trapped in the valley. If you want to know where radiation will be, forget those standard cookie cutter shapes. In an all out nuclear war, you got to assume for 2 weeks, radiation will be too powerful to leave,regardless of where you are. Then, you may be able to assume if you are downwind of high mountains, you are exposed to limited radiation. While fallout simulations look neat, they dont accurately predict radiation risk.
