Your either lost in my statement or have no idea on the difference between current Russian claims and the rules and limits associated with that.
And the difference between a declaration of war and the implications, differences and consequences. GOODLUCK. No point asking me as you should study difference through other sources, to achieve an unbiased result on how conflicts really work and the rules behind military projection for different reasons. Homework can enlighten you.
Whose rules? Do you think that Russia is abiding by an international rule set for conducting military conflict or are they operating on their own rule set? Do you think Putin is going to be handcuffed by a rule? Do those rules involve very public (via Russian press and various members of their government) threats of Nuclear war? Is that when we cross the line into it really being a war in Russia's mind? Does the West follow the same rules of conducting military conflict in that regard? Could the West engage thousands of troops, tanks, aircraft, missiles and ships in a campaign of taking over a country and not call it a war or at least an invasion? I really think the idea being set forth is that Putin and Russia are having their hands tied with what they can use because they have not declared an official war. I ask, sincerely, what super secret arsenal does Russia have sitting by ready to pounce? Is it more experienced soldiers? Is it super modern tanks and missiles? Is it a hidden super navy with modern and advanced ships? Is it stealth planes that will own the skies? I am curious. To me it seems like Russia can only bring more bodies and somewhat modernized equipment to the field...that is it. Does Russia have more troops to send...of course they do. Does Russia have more advance aircraft....sure they do. What Russia can't bring to the field is leadership and tactics. I argue that they are saving troops and more modern equipment for defense. Putin is mad, but he is not insane...yet. So, outside of more numbers, Russia will bring nothing else to the field unless things turn on them and Ukraine starts to enter into Russia which they will never do unless it is to hurt current Russia supply and control being used to hold ground in Ukraine. I think the only other thing Russia has left up it's sleeve is the use of Nuclear weapons. A declaration of war would do nothing to help unleash any hidden Russian might...in my opinion.

The exact details I don't know off hand, but you are right that conscription would be one of them.
Exactly. A declaration of war enables them to call up more troops. It doesn't unlock the super secret cabinet of military equipment and gear that can only be used in the case of war. The declaration would allow strategic releases of resources and the ability to call up more manpower for sure. Some here are thinking we have not really seen the true potential of the Russian military yet due to the labeling of this event as a "special operation" and that they are handcuffed in that regard. Their own press is pushing that story lately too. They claim that Russia could have conquered Ukraine in hours had they declared war. Based on what we have seen, that would be a stretch.

And that is the point. That's your opinion. 😉👍 Some know the differences some don't. Once again if you believe most of his military has been destroyed in Ukraine conflict, I suggest you study more on the subject and also study the difference between a declaration of war and what is currently happening. GOODLUCK.

Some do know the difference and some just keeping beating the same out of tune drum. Nobody thinks Russia has expended their arsenal and lost most of their military. What we do know is that 30-40% of the force gathered to start this "special operation" has either been destroyed or made combat ineffective. What percent that represents of Russia's total military can only be guessed at by anyone who is not in Russia's government. You claim we are saying that almost the entire Russian military is destroyed. Context clues and comprehension are hard for some folks and I understand that, so I will be clear that I am not saying most of Russia's army is destroyed. What I am saying is that a declaration of war will more than likely only open up Putin's ability to do a mass general mobilization of the Russian people and call up whoever is designated as eligible to bolster their current military ranks. It is not going to unlock the secret hanger or supply closet and unload Russia's best stuff on Ukraine. My argument is that we have generally seen what comprises the equipment, gear and tactics of the Russian military. They may have some better trained and equipped troops standing by. Matter of fact I would almost guarantee it. My argument with the declaration is that if they declare war today, it would not make their equipment better or their leadership better. It would only give them more bodies and maybe resources to throw at the situation.

Just to add some clarity to what I and others have been trying to say about a formal declaration of war and what it would mean in regards to Russia and their ability to have more success in Ukraine, I found this article ( as well as several others) that illustrate the point that at least I am trying to make. A declaration just gives Putin the ability to call up more reserves and draft if necessary. Like I said before, it just adds more bodies and metal to the field.
So, again, not sure how the declaration turns it all around for Russia. They have a lot of other logistical issues and supply issues that will remain the same. Now, this declaration may work if the strategy is to just overwhelm Ukraine with bodies and hope they run out of bullets. That could be a strategy.

Another wrong prediction in time frame reference to above. And very limited details as far as consequences for support to Ukraine. But hey each to their own. Those that limit themselves to printed articles of propaganda will never truly educate themselves on true and real potential possibilities. Eg. Declaration of war not only means conscription possibilities and unlimited force projection. It also means what no-one wants to talk about. Western weapons suppliers not only being cut off but now risking direct confrontation of threat to Russia itself. No one mentioned this because no-one wants to talk about the complications, risks and possibilities should this be declared. And there is a more extensive list of issues. Of which I'm only going to give 1 basic example. As a declared war between those two means no-one can help without much higher risk. As Ukraine is not nato this means individual countries will need to risk nato alliance or their own country to provide support as any would clearly be seen as a legitimate intervention against Russia. = War with Russia. Now should everyone realise this risk, and stop support with same reason no-one has done anything but supply Ukraine with weapons simply because they don't want ww3. You do the maths. Ukraine success so far is probably at best 50/50 . Solely because without Western support this probably wouldn't be an issue by now. Most of Russian loss comes from Western support and military toys. Without that this wouldn't be what it is now. That's an appetizer of my point. No more courses available until you pay your own way in knowledge by studying your own questions and opinions. I gave a taste of different scenario possibility that was judged as what he did. Those who see that are completely wrong. He did nothing near that because he couldn't under current situation.
Anyway like I have repeatedly said, we all have different opinions, some from propaganda, some from media posts, some from lack of knowledge etcetc. Each to their own. Unless you look at things in detail across the board without biase, and with knowledge and common sense , you'll always risk being incorrect and or clueless. All the best 🤞

Calm yourself, he is one of the people who believe only one side is bad and only one side does war crimes. He believes war doesn't change people but somehow the world is like a superhero movie or like a war movie with the evil force just being that.evil doing every crazy war crimes just because they are the badguy...eventhough there has been some info pointing to both sides doing it...

Sorry if this is off topic but can someone recap whats actually going on in the Donbas, recap on who is winning losing here and status of sieverdonetsk.

Once again if you believe most of his military has been destroyed in Ukraine conflict
Russia is currently taking men from the drunk tank, other jailbirds, and old men and putting them out in the field without training. Ukraine is currently training tons of reserves with western equipment. So much so that they've started turning away volunteers because they can't keep up with the training. Those are vastly different. Putler is still trying to fight a war 1940's style. But zerg rushes don't work in an era with satellite and drone technology. This is akin to early WW1 strategy of rushing the field only to be mowed down by machine guns.

And this will end war

what exactly are your specific suggestions to correct this besides renaming agencies.
What should we be funding.
Cybersecurity for infrastructure systems....
Hardening of infrastrustructure from EMP...
Nuclear and radiological war preparedness...
Missile defense.... I mean more than 20th century AEGIS systems on ships.
Literally none of it is being done.
A war machine without national defense, is like a football team showing up with just an offensive unit and thinking they will win.

Barry Posen at The National Interest concludes: "United States needs to carefully limit its military and political objectives, and the means it employs to achieve them." Here is the core of his argument in "Can Russia and the West Survive a Nuclear Crisis in Ukraine?"

"It is not hard to imagine what a “theater nuclear” war plan might attempt. The Russians have surely already drawn one up. They would identify their problem as the fountain of U.S. and European weapons reaching Ukrainian forces at the front. They have attempted in recent days to “interdict” this flow of weaponry by attacking railroad infrastructure and airports. But historically, even very good air forces have found interdiction to be a challenge. And Russia only has a mediocre air force. Nuclear strikes with “low yield” weapons on bridges, railroads, and airfields would make it much harder for Ukrainian forces to resupply themselves. Selected strikes against Ukrainian military forces in the field would take the pressure off Russian units. Tactical nuclear targeting was once a high art in both NATO and the Soviet Union. Common sense and a map suggest that even a half dozen attacks could make a difference, but given that today’s Russian army is clearly the descendant of the Soviet Army, their style of military planning would suggest several dozen targets. Ukraine has no nuclear weapons; it cannot respond in kind. Ukraine is not a NATO ally; no other country is committed to the nuclear defense of Ukraine. The Russian leadership may, if the conventional war goes badly enough, reach for a nuclear trump card. We should think hard about what even their preparations for such an attack would set in motion.

... Russia would face difficult choices were it to consider tactical nuclear strikes. Moscow might hope to prepare such strikes in secret, but it seems unlikely. U.S. satellites watch their nuclear bunkers and nuclear units. Unusual activity will set off alarm bells....The Russians need to worry about what the United States will do with this warning.

Among other things, the Russians need to worry about the rest of their nuclear forces. The mobilization of their tactical forces starts a nuclear crisis well before any weapons are launched. Will their strategic nuclear forces remain inert and unalerted in order to convey a sense of limitation to us? Or will they worry that we will worry, and alert our strategic nuclear forces before they can alert theirs? This matters because more of our forces are “ready” at any one time than theirs. If they delay, and the matter escalates, they know they will be at a disadvantage. Among other qualities of the Russian nuclear forces is the fact that most of their nuclear-powered ballistic missile-carrying submarines (SSBNs) are in port. They rely on these weapons, once they are at sea, to endure a feared U.S. nuclear first strike and survive to retaliate.....

....Even if the Russians were very restrained in the alerting of their strategic nuclear forces in support of their theater nuclear strike, the United States would be sorely tempted to do something to try to deter an expected Russian attack. But one wonders what American planners will dream up. They failed to deter the Russian attack on Ukraine with the threat of extreme sanctions and the implied threat of additional arms supplies to Ukraine and the very strong likelihood of a NATO buildup on its eastern borders. Russia clearly thinks its vital interests are at stake. The United States won’t make nuclear threats, but it will be tempted to make some kind of threat.

....Thus, even the preparation of a Russian battlefield use of nuclear weapons would likely produce at least some preparations for a strategic nuclear exchange. But the aftermath of nuclear attacks will be even worse. The United States will be grasping for tools with which to punish the Russians. It is unlikely that U.S. military planners will be able to assure the president that this is the last Russian move. Instead, U.S. military leaders may advise additional U.S. nuclear preparations. Even if the United States is quite judicious in what those preparations might be, they will surely elicit additional moves from the Russians.

.... In sum, if the Russians even begin the preparations for a localized use of small numbers of “low yield” theater weapons, a process will be set in motion that brings both sides’ intelligence and military forces of all kinds, all along the Russian periphery, to much higher levels of activity and alert. Candidly, if I were the Russians, this alone would deter me. But there is no reason to believe that they will be so restrained. Strategic nuclear forces would themselves likely increase their readiness to some extent. The two sides have not managed a bilateral nuclear crisis in a very long time, and one does not really wish to find out if they can easily recover their Cold War vintage crisis management skills. To avoid such an experiment, the United States needs to carefully limit its military and political objectives, and the means it employs to achieve them."

Have not seen anything. This is discussions so rules are little more relaxed here. As long as no one is personally attacking each other idgaf what you guys talk or say just stay on topic.
Talk without reason is pointless lack of support for positions or events.
Everyone just says what ever they want and zero expectation to respond.
Everyone just talks no one listens

Yes if updates on situation is what your after than check out reports. Discussion is not the place for updates. Now in saying that, maybe Discussion could be removed as like you say it is pointless for most who actually are not open to discussion, thoughts, opinions or should I say different opinions etc etc. Or like I say if you don't like it scroll on until something tickles your fancy. This way reports are reports
Discussion is discussion without biase and general public can have the opportunities to be open minded, understand things from different angles , obtain new information and outlooks on said topics. But hey you got my vote in or out on discussion.
Honestly I would be very disappointed should it be removed or cracked down on with control and rules besides the ones that currently exist. But hey , oh well , that's a topic for admin to discuss. 🥱🙄🤷🏻‍♂️

Exactly 100%. Its why we separate the Ukraine-Russia threads into "reports" where you get your updates & "discussions" where people can chat about Russia & Ukraine war.

No one wants to sift through dozens of posts to find sources and verifed reports.
