Ukraine war latest: Russian forces breach Ukrainian defenses in Donetsk Oblast

Russian forces have made a push toward the Dobropillia–Kramatorsk highway in Donetsk Oblast, seizing positions in nearby settlements to support further offensive operations, the Ukrainian battlefield monitoring group DeepState reported on Aug. 11.

"With this development of events, if it does not change, we may encounter a situation where Dobropillia falls faster than Pokrovsk."

Zelenskyy says Putin readying for ‘new offensive’ in Ukraine, not ceasefire

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Vladimir Putin is not preparing for a ceasefire but is readying his troops for “new offensive operations” in Ukraine, even as the Russian leader is set to meet US President Donald Trump for peace talks in Alaska.

Ukraine’s military spokesperson for the southern front-line sector, Vladyslav Voloshyn, told the Reuters news agency on Monday that Russia was moving some military units in the Zaporizhia region for further assaults.

Ukraine prepared to cede territory held by Russia

Ukraine could agree to stop fighting and cede territory already held by Russia as part of a European-backed plan for peace.

Volodymyr Zelensky told European leaders that they must reject any settlement proposed by Donald Trump in which Ukraine gives up further territory – but that Russia could be allowed to retain some of the land it has taken.

This would mean freezing the front line where it is and handing Russia de facto control of the territory it occupies in Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson and Crimea.

The softening of the negotiating position comes ahead of talks between Mr Trump and Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday.

Zelenskyy Says Putin Wants the Rest of Ukraine's Donetsk Region as Part of a Ceasefire

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Tuesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin wants Ukraine to withdraw from the remaining 30% of the Donetsk region that it controls as part of a ceasefire deal, a proposal the leader categorically rejected.

Zelensky reiterated that Ukraine would not withdraw from territories it controls, saying that would be unconstitutional and would serve only as a springboard for a future Russian invasion.

Ukrainian forces are now successfully destroying Russian assault infantry units that had infiltrated in the Dobropillia direction and are gradually regaining control over the area — a significant part of the enemy has been eliminated.
At this stage, a search-and-elimination operation is underway against the infiltrated and surviving infantry groups — with high probability, the area will be completely cleared of occupiers by morning. (y)
