Ukraine flees strategic Donbas region after suffering big losses against Russians​

Ukraine began evacuating its soldiers on Wednesday from the embattled city of Severodonetsk, the strategic eastern city that Russia has been battling to take over in a bid to control the Donbas region, local officials said.
Ukrainian forces retreated after suffering big losses in the city that’s now about 80% controlled by Russian forces, Luhansk regional governor Serhiy Haidai said Wednesday.

US plans to sell drones that can be armed with Hellfire missiles to Ukraine​

The Biden administration intends to sell four advanced drones, which can be armed with powerful Hellfire missiles, to Ukraine for their defense against Russian invaders, a report said.
The four MQ-1C Gray Eagle drones have longer endurance time and range than the smaller aerial systems the Ukrainian army is currently using to defend itself since Russia’s invasion began on Feb. 24, Reuters reported, citing three sources familiar with the planned sale.

"Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky says Russia controls about one-fifth of his country, from the ground gained since the February 24 invasion to the annexed Crimean peninsula and territory held by Moscow-backed separatists since 2014.

Today, about 20 percent of our territory is under the control of the occupiers," the Ukrainian leader tells EU lawmakers.

Zelensky says in 2014, the separatists and the Russian military gained control of 43,000 square kilometres (16,600 square miles) of territory, but says that has increased to nearly 125,000 square kilometres -- an area "much greater" than the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg combined."
